Don't like it

Dec 28, 2009 by marybeary12

I really don't like this phone. The keypad is too flat, the joystick is too sensitive and my phone only rings 2 or 3 times before going to voicemail. I can't wait to upgrade and get a better phone!

Cool Phone

I've had this phone for a few months now and I am satisfied with it. Before the Shine, I has a Samsung a737 and I liked it but I recommend the Shine over it.
PROS:
-2.2 inch clear, brisk LCD screen
-Easy to use joystick
-Flashing 2mp Camera
-Fast 3G web surfing
-Good battery life
-Signatures for text messages
CONS:
-Heavy (over 4 oz)
-Keypad locks very quick
-Unable to set personal banner
Overall, this is a great phone and I recommend it to anybody. The keypad is rather small for texting if you have big fingers but I have small fingers so it doesn't bother me. Also, the mirror is very useful!

Oooh, shiny.

After reading mixed reviews about the Shine, I purchased it in black for the reasonable price of $9.99. Not perfect, but I think it's a great phone, especially for that price. It would even be a good phone for $100. As a point of reference, I switched from a Nokia 6555.

Pros:
-appearance (it's beautiful!)
-size (not too big, but not too small)
-2.0MP camera with flash, great resolution
-easily navigated menus
-can do most things without sliding it open
-powerful vibrate function
-expandable storage, easily accessible
-brushed metal back is fingerprint resistant
-intuitive T9
-fun navigation with the joystick

Cons:
-joystick takes some getting used to (it's sensitive)
-keys are not very sensitive
-ringtones are fairly quiet (but the vibrate is loud enough that I don't miss calls over it)
-front picks up scratches/fingerprints easily
-constantly switching between 3G and Edge, so it can drop service where 3G isn't strong, even if Edge is
-can't customize message alert tones

In a nutshell, I love my phone. My old phone had taken to turning itself off randomly, every hour or so, and had a very quiet vibrate function. If my phone was on vibrate and in my pocket, I couldn't feel it buzz. With the Shine, I can hear it vibrating from across the room. Within a week of having it, I bought a screen protector and snap-on case for a few dollars, and thought they were a great investment to protect against scratching. While it makes the mirror a little less clear, that's not something that matters to me very much. I bought it as a phone, not a mirror. I would recommend it to a friend, just as a friend recommended it to me.

Lg shine CU720

Jun 5, 2009 by nevergetany

Lg shine CU720 has been the poorest phone I have used to date.
Not everything is bad, it does some things right. It has a big display screen, and the control is on the side to change volume and put it in vibrate mode. Without a manual some of the things take time to figure out: such as how do you change the menu to list instead of icon; and how do you assign a particular music to one individual (they do have one for groups..but I prefer it to be individualized). When I called LG recently to get a replacement phone, they told me the phone comes un-locked. I have not tried someone else's sim card to test that out yet. My original phone from AT&T came locked. The CU720 is quad band (that is a pro), but when the phone is locked, it does you no good if AT&T is not there. If you are overseas, and put in their sim card, it won't work. So now your Quad band is 1 band. According to AT&T, they lock the phone so if you go to another carrier, you can't use that phone. If all the manufactures put an unlock in their menu, it would stop that nonsense.
The cons: The phone has such a low wattage chip in it you can not get good coverage. People have a hard time hearing you when you talk (poor mike pick-up), and you have a hard time hearing them (another pick-up?). The wattage needs to be increased to 3watts (as in the older phones) by ALL manufactures. That would give better coverage and fewer lost calls. The phone does not always accept a charge. When you charge it up (every night, as it would go dead the next day), sometimes it charges, sometimes it lasts a while then goes dead (the charge didn't take). My old Motorola phone lasted 2 days between charge ups, you could hear good and people could hear you. On that phone I could assign music to an individual so I knew who was calling. When I attempted to d/l music to my CU720, I had to buy a data cable(they don't provide one), and then it asked for the software (the cable didn't have one), and neither did LG. Rate -10.

Beautiful phone, but nearly useless

PROS:
--Cosmetically, the LG Shine is gorgeous with its brushed metal exterior and mirror display.
--This phone feels solid and well-built in your hand.
--The slide functions smoothly, even after a year of use.
--Durability was demonstrated when the phone was dropped, undamaged, on a ceramic tile floor.
--Battery life is good--the phone only needs recharging once or twice a week

CONS:
--Mirror finish display is impossible to read in daylight and scratches very easily.
--Tiny, slippery keypad and joy-stick, users with large fingers or long fingernails beware!
--Volume of the Shine’s speaker is dismal:
====At full volume w/vibrate I am constantly missing calls because I don’t hear the phone ring.
====Cannot use as MP3 player, except in a very quiet setting
--Limits on Tones — files size must be under 300KB, and only ten pre-installed message tones
--Phone will not maintain a stable bluetooth connection with other devices (headset & GPS)
--USB connectivity is limited--mass storage and recharging only, no PIM management

All things considered, our experience with the LG Shine has been highly disappointing. I would not recommend this particular model to anyone, and will most likely never buy an LG phone again. My husband went back to using his old Motorola RAZR and I hate my phone so much that I am searching for a cheap replacement phone to ride out our 2-year commitment.

Can't take it anymore

I bought this phone in May of '08. I am now on my FOURTH warranty exchange from ATT and am finally being allowed to choose another phone.
Pros - it is a nice looking phone
- the battery life is useful for what
I need
- Fairly easy to navigate although the
keys are VERY small for texting

Cons - can barely feel it vibrate so I miss
a lot of calls
- volume of ringer is ridiculously low
- sound quality of calls is extremely
poor...cannot talk on the phone while
riding in a car as the background
noise is too overpowering
-last but not least...IT KEEPS POWERING
OFF FOR NO REASON!!! All 4 phones have
randomly shut off after a call, while
laying on a table, in my pocket, while
recharging...all seemingly random times

I have not dropped the phones or damaged them in any way. I have even managed to keep every screen scratch free...not so easy with that shiny "glass" face. I think the problem is obviously somewhere in the design...I couldn't possibly have been so unlucky as to get the only 4 malfunctioning phones in the world! I hope I have better luck with my new replacement...I think I will try a Samsung this time. LG has been a very big disappointment.

Great phone

Ive had this phone for about 6 months now and I have to say it has been a great $75 investment. I use this device as a text messaging machine, sport score updater, camera and camcorder, and music player. It makes my multimedia life very convenient

For the most part there are very few things I can complain about.

I have the black Shine, which I think looks the best

Cons-

The speaker volume is very poor. when using it as a mp3 player, i can barely hear the music unless i have my headphones plugged in.

The battery life is remarkebly subpar. I charge it at night when i go to bed and by the time i leave work the following day the phone is warning me that the battery is going to die even when i dont use the internet or music player

Pros-

The Multi-function button is very handy. Many times while im on a phone call, i'll need to check a text or check something i have in my settings. With the multi-function button I'm able to access the "home page" from any application im on, so if im playing a game and i want to check an email I can do so by just pressing one button and then pressing the same button again to go back without having to reload the game.

Screen resolution is great. Pictures, text, and icons all look very crisp.

Color layouts. I have my color layout as black for the background and a darkblue for items I highlight, it is kinda GQish and sexy.

You can record video at a high quality and taking pictures is great as the screen is pretty large.

Overall its a very smart and sophisticated phone that works very streamlined with a memory card. As a waiter, I get kind of anal to make sure nothing is in my teeth and that my hair isnt fluffing around into oblivion, so with the Shine, i can just pull out my phone and look at the screen really quick as opposed to having to run to a bathroom mirror :)

I AM NOT SURE WHAT I THINK OF IT YET!!!

I just got this phone 3 days ago and i can already tell you i don't get near as good as a signal as any of my other phones. I loose signal all the time where my previous phones had FULL bars. CHEAP or EXPENSIVE!!! There's only one ring tone that i can actually hear that came with the phone. The rest are weak. When you use the camera you have to reset flash settings everything which is a pain. VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY WEAK BATTERY LIFE!!! If you decide to keep this phone make sure you purchase a car charger as well because you will need it everywhere you go. So here it is.
Pros- LARGE SCREEN
- ATTRACTIVE
- GOOD RECEPTION WHEN YOU GET A SIGNAL
- STURDY
-----------------------------------------------

CONS- POOR SIGNAL
- SCRATCHES EASILY
- POOR BATTERY LIFE
- JOY STICK TO TOUCHY
- CAN BARLEY HEAR ANY RING/ALERT TONES
- VERY DIFFICULT TO TEXT WITH

wimpy phone

Jan 16, 2009 by meganhull

This phone is no hercules ive had to get a replacement with in 1 month. I find it really hard to believe that I got 2 phones with a bad computer chip, or what ever is in these phones. Could make a person go mad I'm an army wife and I need my line of communication!

Pros:
It has a killer appearance, The shine is very attractive.
If your into using the internet with your phone its got a ton of Apps for all that stuff.

CONS: I am very careful and hardly drop it and certainly NOT on purpose and its messed up a few days later never immediately. It scratches and once its GOOD and scratched it's appearance is shot. Nothing attractive about an old scratched phone.

i'm going to be going back to my older phone I got last year. the batteries better, the battle scars aren't as noticeable and the kicker is it was the free one.

a bad idea

Jan 5, 2009 by sweetgin

I upgraded my phone in september of 2008 and have had to go to a support center and have them give me a complete new phone.

PRO'S
I really dont have any except that the pictures are great on this phone.

CON'S

1. The batt. on this phone is horrible for a person that does alot of texting. I guess it would be fine if all you do is talk, but if you use the internet, text, take lots of pictures, basically if you actually use the phone you have to keep it on the charger.

2. I am dropping calls all the time which i never really had a problem with other phones i think this the first time that dropping calls has been a problem for me.

3. At least once a week or more i would have to completely take my batt. and sim card out of the phone to get it to work. I would not be able to send or recieve text, call or get calls from anyone.

4. Texting is horrible i am constantly hitting the wrong button because there is no room for your fingers(and i have small finders)!! Big fingered people stay away.

5. The scroll button is a little frustrating but takes some getting used to. Most people see that as a problem but not for me.

Over all I would have never got this phone if I would have known any of this about the phone. Its a waste of money.
