Amazing

This phone is great. I usually go thru 3-4 phones a year due to my temper and lovely wife. This phone can't be broken. It's been thoroughly tested. :] The call screen feature is great too.us

Ok, phone for beginning users

So, I was with another carrier and decided to change due to coverage issues. I don't really like too many bells and whistles. I wanted a phone that allowed me to text easily and can make phone calls. So, I tested Sprint and found that the Katana II seemed to be what I was looking for.

It seemed to get great reception anywhere I went so that wasn't the problem. But after using it for about a week I decided that I needed just a bit more out of the phone.

PROS:

small size
nice looking screen
great reception (probably due to network)
Battery life seemed pretty good.
Durable (I dropped the phone a few times and it seemed to stand-up to the punishment)

CONS:

Does not work on the EVDO network so it is slow when using the internet.
Buttons are hard to push.
there is no silence mode button (have to push the volume down button numerous times)
Hard to navigate menu. (too many steps to get to here or there)
No External memory card
Camera is not that great.

I should say that this phone is not terrible. It just wasn't for me. I believe that it would be a great phone for somebody who primarily uses it as a phone, text messaging and the OCCASIONAL web browsing. It is a good starter phone, as I like to say.

Hope this helps somebody out.

when i got this phone in august it was a good phone, its skinny and it takes good pics. but it types really slow and the internet isnt very good on it. Well, after 6 months of having it the internal speaker (not the loud speaker phone) broke. we sent it back and it took sanyo a month to send it back and when i got it it was my same broken phone. we sent it back again and i got a new one. now 3 months later the phone broke with the same problem.

i dont recommend this phone if you are looking for reliable

Great phone. This phone is awesome.
Pros: battery life, clam shell very durable, seems to be a all around good phone. And believe me I had my share of phones.
Cons: keypad does not light up so if your a big texting person I recommend not getting this phone. Get the rumor or sumthn.

Honest Review...I swear!

ok heres the down low: i bought this phone in october and i am Very happy wit it. a few cons would be that the flip on it is a bit flimsy and may begin to squeek after a while. the phone scratches fairly easily for that i bought a skin from skinit.com it covers everything but the screen on the outside. the camera is fairly good but there is no flash and i would have liked a video camera which was not on the katana I either, that would have been nice, but i can live without it. the texting is fairly nice on this phone and has very good t9 settings. the pros would be that it is very sleek and contemporary and has a nice keypad. overall this phone is good and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice sleek contemporary phone. also ppl say that this is a cheap version of the razr but i think that it is much better.

Awesome Phone

I have been with Sprint since June of 2001 and this is only my 3rd Sanyo phone I've owned. I had to retire my big old candy bar Sanyo 4900 just last week and upgraded to the Sanyo Katana II only because my nearly 4 year old Sanyo 4900 would not ring anymore but still took voicemail and every thing else but just would not ring anymore. I had heard good and bad about flip phones that the reception was not as good as the candy bar style phones but this Katana II is awesome and gets good reception just about anywhere and have not lost one call yet with my Katana II. It is so light and compact I really like the way it fits in my hand and feel it is very ergonomic and no more antenna to get caught in. The antenna in the Katana II is internal. Setting it up was a breeze too. Very understandable and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to set this up. Very user friendly. I stand by Sanyo products and when something works for you, you stick to it. In conclusion here, I highly recommend this phone to anyone ready to upgrade from their candy bar style phone to the Katana II. Very cool. Thumbs up on this one and I am sure it will last me another 4+ years. Right on Sanyo!

Excellent all around phone. The only thing I wish it had was a micro sd slot. Solid performer.

Text Messagers: BEWARE!

Oct 23, 2007 by CarsonRoss

I have owned this phone for 3 months now only because of my bad luck: my old phone drowned itself in my pool. This is what replaced it. I am a customer who makes phone calls and texts, and that is exactly what I told the employee working. He set me up with this horrible excuse for a texting phone...

The problem seems to lie within the technology of the phone. It is too slow. I tend to type my messages fast and because the butons are hard to press, I miss letters and whole words which makes T-9 spazz out.

I recommend buying a different phone if this is one of your options. I am getting the new Rumor next month to put my texting needs at bay.
