Just To Let You Know...

Aug 11, 2007 by sgraves4

The Blast actually supports more than AOL and Yahoo. There are two additional spots for "Other." My Comcast email worked great.

You tell me...

3½ stars..

Pros:

Price
Slick looking
Slim and light
Camera is smooth
Call clarity great
Slider is smooth
Semi QWERTY rock my socks

Cons:
Only supports AOL and Yahoo
Meeting and birthday reminders do not work correctly.. FLAT OUT!!! This really l@@ks bad for the organized type...
If someone emails you, to reply, you can only reply from a PC

Well, Here's my monologue.. It's a slick and comfortable phone, with some glitches. As a phone, it as good as Iceman in Top Gun. If you have Yahoo, AOL, and you love to text... It's a mean machine. Plus, if you're like me, you are on the PC allot anyway!!! If you want to drop your data plan, and Blackberry, you have barked up the WRONG TREE my friends!! Cool phone, with flaws

A blast? not so much...

I had this phone for about a year, and in that time I went through four of them. I am not rough on my phones, it just had trouble with the sliding mechanism on the phone. Each one I had was loose to begin with and just got worse from there. Also, on two of the four, the lights for all the buttons stopped lighting up after a few months usage. Then key would stop working altogether.

Overall, I feel that this is a cheap slider phone that should be avoided at all costs, unless you really enjoy talking to customer service and ordering replace phones periodically.

Decent, But Problematic

First, I did NOT purchase this phone new, but it was in great shape when I got it.
PROS:
- texting keyboard is decent, once you get use to it
-looks nice

CONS:
-no comma on text pad without going into a menu
-battery life is mediocre
-the slide is not well designed, there is nothing much to grip to open it
-after a few months the phone's screen stopped working right. Sometimes it distorts after opening/closing the slide. Other times it just goes all white. Sometimes when opening/closing & other tines it will do it when you receive a call/text. VERY annoying. I had to get a new phone.

Great mid level phone

Pros:
- Qwerty keyboard is great for texting
- IM app uses texting only so no additional data charges
- Can add your own mp3s to use as ringtones or alarms
- Alarm app can set multiple different alarms which can be repeatable
- Pictures taken with the camera turn out surprisingly well considering there's no flash
- Video clips are actually better than video taken on my digital camera
- Upgradeable memory via microSD card
- It's a lot more durable than it feels. I recently dropped it a few feet onto concrete and while the back cover and the battery came off, there was no damage to the phone other than a little of the paint rubbing off
- Fits very well in the hand/pocket with an attractive red/black color scheme

Cons:
- Alerts for text messages are not customizable
- No option to turn off shutter sound on the camera unless the phone is in silent mode
- Can't save pics/video directly to memory card
- Limited storage for text messages means frequent deleting if you're a heavy texter
- Can't listen to music while doing anything else on the phone
- I had trouble getting email to work with the phone's email app
- It has frozen/restarted itself because of software glitches a dozen or so times over the past couple years

I got this phone about a month after it came out and have been using it ever since. After almost 2 years I am very pleased with how it's held up compared to other cellphones. I text a lot more than I talk and charge my phone almost daily so I rarely run into battery problems. With every other phone I've owned I'm usually fed up with the declining battery life by this point but I'm still very happy with my Blast. The only reason I won't continue using this phone after my contract ends is because I want to upgrade to a full smartphone. I see the Blast as a great phone for someone who wants something slightly better than the standard cellphone but isn't quite ready for a full-on smartphone. Any phone I get in the future will definitely be compared to this one.

THIS PHONE ROCKS

This is phone is the only handset that I would consider re-newing my contract for! It has a 20 key layout which after 2 day you get accustomed to. This music player is outstanding (could be louder) and memory card slot is handy.

Phones hard body is durable! I accidentally dropped it and kicked it (OMG) and ignoring minor scratches phone is operating.

Messaging is easier, quicker and emailing is a snap!

I would recommend this phone to user that have trouble when it comes down to physical damage. My father a mechanic utilizes this phone while at work and is in a like new condition still.

This Phone is awesome. I Like it way more than Nokia 2400, Motorola 410, Motorola Razor, Sidekick iD, Sidekick LX. It is by far the best phone I have ever had The keyboard is awesome it is compact and easy to text I love it.
My only con is when you are texting if you close it it will not send but i love it

Not loud enough

(Casa Grande, AZ with T-Mobile)
I do not own a Samsung Blast, but my friend just bought one. Ever since she got it, I can't hear her when we talk on the phone. I continually am asking her to repeat herself and speak louder.
PRO: Qwerty keyboard good and texting is hard to learn but fun and easy after a while.

CON: You can hear the person on other line when on the phone with them, but they cannot hear you. I believe the mic is located below in the phone on the bottom rather than the front of the bottom portion of the phone.

Awesome Value

This is my favorite phone out of all that I've owned. I was worried about the slder mechanism at first. I thought it felt kind of cheap, like it might wear out. It held up great though.

Pros:

- Low price for everything you get

- Size/Shape

- Camera lens is protected from scratches when the slider is not popped up.

- Qwerty keyboard! Super fast texting.

- Decent size screen, considering the overall phone size.

- Good screen resolution.

- Button with an assignable function.

- Backed up contacts automatically by sending them to a server online every night after adding new entries.

- I never saw it lag.

Cons:

- Not waterproof ;)

- It would have been nice to be able to get the speaker a little louder, but it wasn't too bad.

- Not exactly the toughest casing. I dropped it once from 2 feet up and it bounced once. It looked like I ran it over with a car afterward.
