Great phone, Crappy Service

Oct 16, 2009 by jxdutoi

When I bought this phone, it was great. All the features I wanted. Then I discovered that the service thru Alltel was the worst I had ever encountered. I have been with MANY different providers and NEVER had I had so many issues. I was never able to sent a picture message, received 2 picture messages, never able to sent a video message, received 1 video message. I had this phone for about nine months. Any time I contacted Alltel, I was given the run around and basically told that I am a moron. Now that Verizon owns Alltel, I hope that the customer service and the overall phone service is improved or Verizon might be facing some serious losses.

Pros: Small slim design, great features.

Cons: Alltel was the provider.

Great phone!!!

I love this phone!! Great reception, crystal clear on both ends, very classy-looking and very thin. I love the buttons and the camera, it's very clear!

There's only one problem: it school took it away till the end of the school year >=[ but it was my fault

Samsung Wafer

Do not buy this phone. It is the worse cell phone I have ever paid money for. I have had constant problems with echoing in this phone ever since I got it and been in and out of Alltel stores because of issues with this phone and now there is nothing they can do about it since I didn't get an extended warranty on it. I was just hoping the thing would last until my contract expires. I am going back to my old phone until my contract runs out and switching cell phone carriers because of the lousy service I got concerning this phone.

I am disappointed with Alltel but that is a different story; however concerning Samsung Wafer; dont waste your money.

Disappointed

Replaced a Nokia with Wafer 6 Mo's ago. Agree with everyone about echo complaint. Also reception in fringe area of a tower is much poorer than the Nokia was. Should have returned the Wafer to Alltel and chosen a different phone, but didn't. I also use the Wafer as a Modem for internet access, it works OK, but USB connect cable from Alltel that came with the kit doesn't charge the phone as it was represented and the Internet connection saps the battery pretty rapidly.

not worth your money

so i bought this phone about 6 months ago and i thought it was so cool, slim, and looked like a blackberry without spending the money...i agree that it is a really cool looking phone i just wished they spent a little less time on the look and a little more time on the quality

i go to a small town in Nebraska a lot and they had just put up an alltel tower that is why we have this service, well funny that all the other alltel phones work there but not the wafer.

i have taken it back to alltel and asked for a new phone and they said that they would send me another one because mine echoes a lot and always cuts out. i went in and they said "sure" and i thought wow that was to easy, i asked the lady why that was so easy and i figure out that they dont even sell the phone anymore because it sucks so bad

my question is...
why wont they give me store credit or give me a different phone!!!

Looks Great, Works Like......

Isn't the primary purpose of a phone to enable the user to communicate with others? This phone looks great, awesome display, great features however since I bought it EVERYONE I speak to says there is an echo or they cannot hear me.

Alltel attempted to fix this with some sort of download to no avail then, they gave me a new phone which was suppose to have the new software that eliminates the echo. NOPE! I am not on phone 3 with pretty much the same issue. Some people still tell me that there is an echo and others say they simply cannot hear me well. I give.

I am stuck with this phone I guess until my contract renews again because who pays retail for a cell phone these days. I feel it's Samsungs responsibility to recall these phones or maybe Alltel should to save face!

Don't Buy It

i hope i am not being to harsh, but please do not buy this phone. it is not what you want or will like. the only thing i liked about it was it had a pretty display.

Pro:
Pretty display

Con:
ECHO

TIN CAN SOUND

TO MANY I CAN'T HEAR YOU

CAN'T USE THE CASE THAT GOES WITH IT. MAKES THE CALL QUILTY WORSE

NO FLASH WHEN IN THE DISCRIPTION(SP) IN BOTH THE ALLTEL AND SAMSUNG WEB SITE SAYS IT DOES.

this is my third samsung wafer phone and the echo has been in each one. it's a problem they cant solve. they should all be recalled. love the size and screen but they have to do something about this problem.dont buy this phone!

Too bad

Love the size, feels great but gave it a one rating because the echo thing is still not solved with new software and what good is a phone that looks great if everyone complains of the echo and you sounding like you are in a tunnel?

Needless to say this weekend I am returning it and getting the Wave.

I'd choose something else

The Samsung R510 Wafer is a really cool phone in design, but it has some flaws. First off this phone is known to have an echo problem. Alltel released a software update that would fix this but it doesn't work. The only way I have found to stop the echo is to turn the call volume down below medium. I really like the slim design but once again I would go to an LG 8600 or a Razor over this. This is the type of phone that you will probably have to take back to your alltel store over and over again.

Pros: EVDO, mp3, slim design.
Cons: Echo, "not a flip phone".

If you are looking for a slim phone with mp3, bluetooth, camera, go for a razor, u520, ax8600, just go with anything but the R510 you'll thank me later.
