Phone

I think the Sony Ericsson T62u is a very good phone, I just can't ever find any ringtones to download for it. That is the only thing I don't like about it.

Satisfaction

Sep 19, 2003 by William Bray

After reading several posts on GAIT phones I decided to go for the T62U. I have Cingular for my carrier. The RF is superior to my old Nokia 3390, and the T62U does not have the reputation of application crashes that the Nokia 63401 enjoys.

Pros. Great RF.
Easy to use. The joy stick and software features of this phone have been improved upon. I have found no problems.
Nice extra features. This phone has several advantages. You can get everything from a laser pointer to complete car kit in association with your activities.

Cons. I have not had it long enough to know if the GSM/TDMA handoff has been improved yet.
Power button. This tiny thing down at the bottom is hard to use. Unless it is touched just right it will not work.

This phone is awesome! It works on TDMA, GSM and Analog. I always have great phone quality, the only negative I have found is the battery life leaves a lot to be desired.

good radio - bad usability

we have three of these T62U phones from at&t, and we may send them back - they work well, but they're almost impossible to use.

i've been with at&t for about 13 years, and this (1/04) is the worst time in their history. most of their network is TDMA, but they're switching to GSM. during the switch, they're moving TDMA capacity to GSM. this means that owners of TDMA phones may not get the service they experienced in the past. starting in 4/2003, we were no longer able to use our phones at our home. though the signal was good we usually got rapid busy.

when we learned about this "capacity migration" we were astounded to learn that they only offered two phones that cover both GSM and TDMA, and only one plan that covers both. they've even gone so far as to split the customer care for the two groups - it's as if there are two different operating companies. in other words, most users either get GSM phones or TDMA phones, so no matter where they are, they never get the benefit of the full at&t network.

this T62U is the only phone at&t offers that should work "everywhere" regardless of the equipment. it should be able to switch from GSM to TDMA to Analog and back again as you travel from cell to cell. you would think that it never drops calls, but it does. it does appear to be better than the TDMA phone it replaced, but we don't have any "GSM-only" phones to compare with. our conclusion is that it does a fairly passable job of being a cell phone - it does allow us to communicate almost all the time.

so, why am i writing this nearly endless rant? it's because the designers of this phone aren't qualified to design cereal boxes let alone cell phones. as a product designer, i'm not the best - hell, i may be bad for all i know - but i do know how to steal good ideas. these guys must be staring at their bellybuttons when they should be looking at competing cell phones.

so what's wrong with it? see the next review.

This Phone is wonderful!! This is the second one that i owned, The first one was a dud, but i took it to Cingular and they replaced it for me. This phone is highly customizable. I have changed faceplates, pics on the phone and ringers.(If you want to download ringers use the Cingular site and select your phone as the moto120t). Plus you can change the text size on the screen, this makes it great for WAP because you can read more lines at a time. This phone also performs extremely well. This phone gets great coverage outside of town, as well as in, mostly because you can use GSM. I also like that you can store many contacts, and put multiple numbers per name.

This is just a great phone for anyone!! I would say get it!!

good phone... little options

i love my phone. i had it for like 2 mouths now. and have cingular nationwide calling plan. no ROMING!!!! but i have hard time getting any ring tone to work.. i use the MOTO 120 as my cell phone thought cingular. yes you can download the ring tone, but the ring tone is not in time or key for the ring tone. to get the full GPRS/GRS you need to have T-Mobile in the calling area for it to work. the phone is a tough phone. but if it is option other then a phone that work were ever there is signal go some where else.
