THE phone to have!

Dec 11, 2007 by kylehiggins1

Unbealivable great phone. This phone is everything the I-phone should have been. While the I-phone is fun, this phone has the features, speed, and software to make it a helpful and neccesary part of anyones day. It has ms word, excell and the buttons are orginized in a way that make your productivity soar! If you are looking to invest in a phone that is worth every penny this one delivers. It is like having a desktop in your hand. I spend a lot of time on the computer so this phone is priceless.

Pros:
internet speed
ease of use
where the buttons are placed(roller weel, directional pad, touch screen, full keyboard)
Ms word
Ms excel
sd chip
fast fast fast

cons:
no gps

Great phone

Upgraded from the 6700. This phone is light years ahead of the 6700. Sleeker, lighter, easier to use. The scroll wheel rocks. Love the assisted key board and still love the keyboard concept...makes for very easy email and texting. My only con is I wish they would put a bit of neoprene or something like that on the edges..keep it feeling secure in your hand. Otherwise..truly a great phone and a massive update over the 6700.

Great smartphone!

I've had the phone a week, but I'm already hooked. I finally decided to combine phone and PDA functions, after going years with a (excellent) Motorola E815 (Verizon) cell phone and Palm-OS PDA. I first tried the Palm Treo 700wx, thinking I'd be comfortable with Palm's interface. Well, I never got a chance to get comfortable: the Treo could barely pick up a phone signal! After two days of dropped calls (or standing out in the rain to get a signal), I brought the Treo back and (assuming it was defective) was given a replacement Treo. Guess what: still almost no signal, terrible bluetooth connection (car interface didn't work), and buttons too small (and rounded) to find/push accurately. When I brought the 2nd Treo back, Verizon had just (that day) gotten the 6800 in -- thank God!!

This phone is awesome: good signal (though still not quite as good as my old Motorola), good bluetooth, e-mail (no problem setting up), Outlook integration, great touchscreen with big/easy dialing display, cool slide-out keyboard, etc., etc.

The only minor "con" so far is difficulty navigating the internet (small screen, slow loading, difficult navigation), but I've just starting using it...so it may improve. And just having access is great.

I haven't even tried the camera yet, or music; will be downloading map programs, etc.

I'm a believer!

Poor design

I've had this phone for about 2 months now, coming from a Treo 650. Biggest mistake I've ever made, when it comes to phones. I will be re-activating my Treo with Alltel, and trying to dump this thing. If you're considering a smart phone, don't walk away from this one - RUN!!!

Pros:
- Phone reception is good
- Speakerphone is clear
- Volume during calls is fair
- Works well as a laptop modem

Cons:
- Windows. Meaning slow, cumbersome, unstable, and labor intensive. It takes several steps to get where you want to be. Very few directly accessible features. If you like windows, maybe this isn't a 'con'
- Buttons. Too many - you can't even pick the phone up without hitting one of the many side buttons, which starts a program you didn't want. It's only one step to get back to where you were, but that program is still running in the background (see next con).
- Programs have to be stopped manually, or you run out of memory (6 steps to stop programs)
- Locks up and has to be reset about every other day
- 2-handed phone. Very little you can do otherwise.
- Battery life is mediocre, and really bad if bluetooth is turned on (like, less than 12 hours on standby)
- Generally, just an inconvenient pain to use.

Read the title........ IT'S FREAKIN' AWESOME!

Should be cool/great, but is it?

Now this phone has some pretty ridiculous/sweet/awesome options on it. If you can get the phone to work correctly. I have Verizon, and I don't think they even know how to get the phone to work as I've been on customer service with them 5 times for over 5 hours about this phone. I've reached the "top level" of tech support (even though they were supposed to call me yesterday, and it's still not working nor have I been called) but they haven't been able to fix it. The main problem is the e-mail sync but the fact that no one knows how to fix it is my concerng. 3 hard resets, 1 soft and about 6 hours of my life wasted later, I'm waiting on my new carrier (switched from Sprint) to give me a call back so I can operate my e-mail on the phone. The main function of the phone is to basically be an office on your phone right? If I cared about taking pictures or downloading songs I would've gotten the Venus or something, but every time someone sends me an attachment the system crashes. I would wait to get this phone until each carrier understands how to to tech help it.

Email

Dec 7, 2007 by hoopdmf

I have been thinking about purchasing this phone but can't decide between this and the new global blackberry out. Can anyone tell me if this uses the same "push" type email like the blackberry does. That it's on real time so when I recieve an email it will notify me (vibrate, beep, something) or will I have to just check/sync my phone each time to recieve an email?

Thanks :)

Verizon XV6800....Finally! And It rocks!

Dec 1, 2007 by Phonesnob76

Received my XV6800 on 11/30 after tracking its release for almost a year.

Pro's
Great reception, I can hear people perfectly and they can hear me.
Blue-tooth paired with my car with no problems.
Dialing on the screen had to take a little getting used to, but once you know where to hit it worked fine.
The battery cover is thin flimsy and plastic feeling, but the rest of the phone is solid and the sliding qwerty board comes out easily and feels pretty solid even when opened.
Qwerty board is easy to use the keys are definitely big enough, and backlit nicely.
Evdo seems fast enough, Wifi works great, turns on with the flip of a switch.
Pretty good reception with Slingbox (the real reason I got a PDA phone)
Screen is bright easy to see inside and outside
Battery bar went down one notch in 24 hours,
2mp camera takes pretty good pictures relative to phones, has a lot of options for different settings including a flash that is super bright!
All buttons are customizeable to applications which is a huge plus.
Email worked great.
After rebates and NE2 phone only cost $150.

CONS
Could have used a few more apps
no vzw navigator and GPS functions.
some features are not very inutitive, buttons aren't always where you would think they would be.
I would prefer a louder speakerphone but it looks like there are hacks out there to fix that.
stylus pen folds and when you use it sometimes it folds and it gets a little annoying.
still haven't figured out how to make all the lights to stop flashing on it.

Bottom line I waited, angrily waited, and now I finally feel like I have the perfect phone for all my needs! And verizon did confirm they can transfer the numbers from my v710 to this phone, there is no back up assistant on it, it needs to be done in the store.

Some Flaws but im hooked!

I purchased my first pda in 2006. The blackberry I started off with was much easier to use than this htc (at least at first). Most of the pros and cons have been covered by the previous posts. Overall this htc is great.

Raves:

Keyboard functions- fast typing

Phone as modem- handy

Voice memos- I will never lose split second information again. I know other pda's have this but it is so easy to get to.

Activesync- I love that you can drag and drop all of your files onto your computer. This is so handy.

Rants:

Sluggish- has frozen on me and had to do a soft reset.

Battery Life- not much more than 1hr 20min continuous talk time fully charged.

Phone as modem- should be lower price at least until the speed increases.

Running Programs- I like that you can control them but it should at least be easier to get to.
