Seemed like a good idea at the time, but...

Jun 20, 2007 by bentonsv

Recently tried this new LG phone. Looks great, feels very durable, ear piece sound is excellent, speaker phone is one of the best I've encountered. Verizon Wireless in Wilmington, NC is my carrier.

However, the metal casing for me was way too slick and I always felt like I was going to drop it unless I kept it in a "death grip". People with sweaty palms may not have as hard a time with it as I did. This issue of course could be fixed with a skin or shell of some kind. -0.5

I've gotten into the habit of opening flip phones one handed and the bottom bulge in this phone's shape made this difficult. I have the same trouble with my wife's RAZR, which this phone apparently copied. -0.5

The ringer on this phone was not nearly loud enough for me. Previewing the ringers with the phone open they sounded plenty loud enough, but when it rings while closed, the volume just isn't there. Yes I had the ringer volume turned all the way up. The problem is apparently due to not having an external speaker for the ringer. -1

Summary: Excellent sound quality during calls, but if you decide to try this one, keep it very close at hand if you want to here the ringer.

By the way, I switched to the LG VX8600. Jury is still out on it, but it's sound quality isn't quite as good as the 8700.

Tried ot!

Tried it for two weeks and it wasn't bad except for possibly poorer battery life than I expected and a few lost calls. Also, not very comfortable to speak on. Switched to a Maxx ve and I like it better except for the smaller fonts and a tad bit better battery life,

Decent phone

This phone has a nice look and feel to it. The UI is very nice however the metalic UI really slows the phone down. The T9 text input doesn't seem to remember words and if it does it's very cumbersome to use. The speaker on the phone is pathetic. Music turned up at max volume is distorted and not very loud. The outside screen is hard to read and both in and out screens are impossible to see in sunlight. My first 8700 had the worst camera i've ever seen in a phone as it would not focus. My replacement had a slightly better but still not what i was expecting and it was a big let down. After having the phone for 6 days i decided to take it back for the Maxx. Since i've mostly used motorola's i'm used to ITAP. The Maxx blows this phone away with it's features and camera alone.

Problems with the speaker

Jul 1, 2007 by msmargaretia

While I love the look and feel of my LG8700, I am disappointed that for the 2nd time in less than 60 days the speaker system on my phone has failed. I can hear the phone vibrate with an incoming call, but, no sound. When I answer there is absolutely no sound. Callers can hear me but I cannot hear them. Odd - that the same situation has happened to me twice now on two different LG8700's. Wondering if anyone else has had that same problem. I am surprised that LG would have this problem as the quality of their phones, in my experience, has been excellent.

Pros: Sleek, Sexy look and feel to the phone; Great photo and video quality; overall functionality is nice;

Cons: Speaker not working, phone cannot be used for it's primary purpose.

What a disappointment

Phone's battery life is poor and I've had dropped and dropped call. The sound quality sounds like you are in a tin can. Going to return it this weekend.

VZNavigator doesn't work like it is supposed to.

I just came from a VX8300 that worked flawlessly to this phone. The VZNavigator never worked correctly. It would lose connection everytime it was used. Verizon even replaced that phone thinking that would help. Second phone did the same thing.
PROS: flat, beautiful screen.
CONS: VZNavigator doesn't work, battery life is horrible, battery DOES get HOT, VERY easy to slip out of you hands, outside screen is a joke.
For me the navigator is a very important function of the phone. Most things on this phone worked well.
NOTE: using Verizons 30 day worry free guarantee is a major pain. They make you pay full price for the replacement phones and then in a bill cycle or 2 they will refund the money. Not impressed. If it wasn't for the "network", I would look elsewhere.
