Alias: Okay

Jun 10, 2008 by awesomeperson

I've only had this phone for about 10 days, but I can tell you I am trading it for a before my thirty days are up. I got this phone trying to save money a little and it did look like a good phone in the store. Not so much.

First off, the full keyboard is nice, but the keys are just too small for normal sized fingers and the letters around the edge are impossible to reach when texting something quick. I screw my words up all the time. That p is extremely hard to get to without changing the formation of my fingers.

Second, the fact that is flips both ways is pretty cool and the keyboard is protected like on a normal flip phone, but it always felt to me like I was going to break it each time I opened it.

Third, the camera sucks. It has good megapixels and stuff but unless you are a statue, the photo always ends up blurry. It is near impossible to take quick snapshots

aka Great Phone!

This is the 3rd Samsung phone (a650 & u540) and the best phone ever! There is not too much I can point out that is wrong with it, other than Samsung could have bumped the camera up a notch. Being that as it may, the primary function of this device is voice communication and close second being text communication both which now perform flawlessly. Anything after these are simply perks and some of which will most likely never be used. There was a couple of issues with the battery & volume, but were quickly addressed with help from both Samsung & Verizon Wireless Customer Care. I was fortunately able to get a silver one which I think adds a kind of pop to the style. Should you be considering purchasing this phone, go for it! The Alias is at least worthy of a heart-felt test drive.

Excellent Phone After a Year

This has been one my most favorite cell phones of all times. It's highly intuitive and able to withstand repeated falls since it doesn't have a true case.

It has all the standard features that most verizon phones have and if you really dig around you will find that it does have speech to text messaging if you are so inclined to spend 3 minutes setting it up.

I would say my biggest issue with the phone is the fact that you have to use an adapter plug for a headset. I am a headset nut and when my bluetooth goes out I don't want to have to look for a three in cable in addition to an extra headset.

The other thing I would advise is spending the extra money on the extended battery. Besides the fact that the standard battery is terrible, the extended battery seems to help increase the signal. I don't know why but after losing the cover to my extended battery and going back to the standard I've definitely noticed a difference.

Verizon Wireless- Poor Quality Phone

After I had got the KRZR and returned it I got the Samsung SCH-u740. I liked the phone because it had a QWERTY keyboard and was fairly responsibly priced. After a couple days my thoughts about the phone changed completely. The keyboard was super small and I messed up well text messaging all the time. I was afraid that the phone would break because the hinge was loose. The phone started to shut off every time I entered V Cast, Verizon Wireless' streaming video or games. I actually got that same phone 7 different times in less than a year. I was very disappointed that Verizon didn't allow me to get a different phone until about the 9th time. Then I got a good phone for once....

Not so sure...

i bought this phone a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it at first. Its really cool when you frist turn it on to see all the little keys with the white back light. I took it back a couple days later because when ever i talked on it the volume would go all the way down to where you couldnt hear anyone then shoot way up. The verizon people said that it was something wrong with the phone and that it was also wasting the battery.

So i exchanged it for the same phone and i am still having some problems. Not only that...some other issues that i have with it are: When you dont have your ear directly on the speaker, you cant hear people talk. Lots of dropped calls, no ringtones or wallpapers that are good, so prepare to download

What i like about it:
-sleek and stylish
-thin
-good for texting

What i dont:
-The part of teh phone that flips up feels like its going to break off at any moment
-battery
-sound quality
-pic quality

I am probaly going to return this for an LG VX8700 even though its not a texting phone

first problem

I have gone threw the phone and i found a problem.
the get it now apps for new ringtones are not there.
i have conntacted verizon and they say its a phone issue. I swaped out the phone and had the same problem. Im sure it will be addressed with the first software update. other then that it works great, the coolest phone i have ever owned

Samsung Alias Rocks!

I have a friend who recently switched to Verizon and she has the Samsung Alias. I got to play around with this phone a bit and I LOVE it. I really wish they made one for my provider, which is different from hers. At first I thought the phone looked ugly in the pictures, but when I had it in my hands and was text messaging her friends (she knew I was doing this), it was great. The phone's dual flip QWERTY keyboard made it really easy to respond. I am thoroughly impressed and highly recommend this phone to anyone who has Verizon that is looking for a nice small phone that comes equipped with a QWERTY keyboard.

Ehh Not bad

Typical Verizon. Its a cool design but the Verizon Menu and lack of features really kills it. And only 1 megapixel camera not what you would expect from Samsung.

This Phone is Nothing but a Big Disappointment

I wanted to get rid of this phone after the first week. I regret not taking it back while it was still under the 30 day trial. I have had to get 4 replacements, so I've had five of these phones. I got my very first SCH-u740 about 10 months ago. Bottom line, this phone sucks in every way possible. The camera is terrible, the pictures are blurry. And it has a flash, a light goes off, but you would never know by looking a the pictures. It can hold about 52 texts. The buttons get worn out, as well as the hinge. It scratches and shows wear and fingerprints really easily. You have to use it in the landscape mode when you try to do anything, really. It will hang up during calls and sometimes even shut itself off in the middle of the call. The vibrator is TERRIBLE, you don't know when it vibrates. When it's open like a regular phone, the phone is gigantic. One of the times when I went in to get a replacement, the woman that worked at the verizon told me that the phone couldn't handle the amount of texts I had done on it. I'm sorry, but a phone with a QWERTY keyboard that couldn't handle 5,000 texts?! Don't even get me started on the battery. I have to charge it three to six times a day. It's ridiculous. When left in the sun, the black buttons turn permanently brown. I have had all of these problems with every single one of these. The one good thing is that the phone can stand getting a little wet. You can't drop it in the bath tub, but you can talk on it when it's lightly raining outside or if you text with wet hands. I cannot stand this phone a second longer. I'm going to my local verizon store today and pay full retail for the enV2 because i need to get rid of this phone ASAP!
