Great Phone, Many More Pros than Cons

Mar 26, 2007 by eln521

This is really a superb phone.

I bought an LG VX6100 two years ago and it was a great phone, but it was dated and i desperately wanted a new one. Last month I went to my local Verizon store and saw an ad for this phone and i decided to wait for it.

Pros:
HUGE screen

Detailed screen- the best quality screen of any phone I have ever owned or used.

Compact size- when most flip phones open up, they double in size. With the sliding feature, the 9400 stays small.

Great speaker- much better than my previous phone and with a very vibrant sound.

TV- I have not tried the TV feature yet but I can see the channel guide and although it's an additional $15/mo., I may consider buying it.

Cool Colors- Black and silver work nicely together

Cons:
The black frame around the screen is constantly getting marked with fingerprints. I have a black Samsung LCD TV and the same problem happens (they're made with the same shiney material) so I just use the cloth that came with the TV to clean the phone.

Certain things can only be done in landscape mode. This includes Get it Now and sending a text message. (you can read text messages without opening the phone).

Price- $200 AFTER rebates is tough.

The battery is hard to remove.

On the whole I coulld not be happier with this phone. The only thing i would change would be the black frame around the screen because it attracts fingerprints (although it looks really nice when it's clean).

The Best Yet

This is sixth lg and they keep getting better and better. I've had the 4400, 6000, 7000, 8000, 8100, the chocolate, and now the 9400. I've upgraded so much because I always want the latest and most advanced available.

Pros: Its user friendly and very easy to read. The screen resolution is far superior to any other phone I've seen lately. The voice recognition is alot better than its predecessors as far as its understanding you and how fast it responds, weather using just the phone mouth piece, or a bluetooth headset. The speaker phone, and the rinetones are alot louder than before which is a plus in a noisy environment.

Cons: I find it a little strange that such a high end phone has only a 1.3 mega pixel camera. Advanced functions can only be used in panoramic view. Even though it has a music player its very hard to hear without headphones.

One thing I would like to see changed is being able to use downloaded music as a ring tone, and sounds with the alarm function. Anyone looking for a quality phone the will not be disappointed with this phone.

9400...Beautiful display....God Awful Camera!

Mar 24, 2007 by joelsgotmail

The title is there...this thing has just a horrible camera. The indoor shots are mostly grainy, blurry, and dark. The flash only has an effect when you're within a foot of the subject. My outdoor shots are ok....slightly over exposed, but sharper than the indoor shots. Very disappointing camera work....

On the other hand, if you plan on using it like a phone, it's great! I haven't dropped a call in my house yet, which my vx8000 did regularly. The screen is just crystal clear, the speakerphone is very loud, and it's nice to have a one touch speakerphone button on the side.

The flip around screen is smooth and solid. Nothing cheap feeling at all about it! You can talk easily with the screen flipped up or down. They let you use the LG UI or the standard Verizon UI....nice for a change! It plays all my old MP3's and qcp ringers.

The TV part isn't functioning yet...possibly on 4/1 there will be more areas turned on to the TV part of this thing...the demo video that played was smooth and I can see a TV Guide display which is good and it looks like navigating the TV will be very easy.

Superb Phone!

I got my phone from FedEx back on Thursday, March 23rd, here in Atlanta.

Pros:

Very Nice size, very nice looking.

Excellent, sharp, vibrant, large screen that is very easy to rotate with one hand.

Large, well-spaced buttons that are easy to use for menu navigation and texting.

Nice, Loud speakerphone, ring, and earpiece volume.

Nice LG UI, including very nice wallpapers, and "fun animations to use as wallpapers"

VZ Navigator is nice and loud.

VCast TV looks, and works great. Even in smaller towns outside of my area that don't have EVDO.

No problems at all with reception so far.

Bluetooth has been very convenient with files transfers of unprotected files to and from a computer.

It has been very difficult to find flaws, but here goes.

Cons:

I wish the battery life was a little longer, but I understand due to the vibrant screen and tv usage.

Also, I wish it had a 2 megapixel camera, yet that's not a decision maker for me.

If it did have a longer battery, and 2 megapixel camera, it would be the only 5 rating that I'd give any phone that I've ever used and seen.

THE Hidden Issues

Feb 27, 2008 by bear14624

I recently Upgraded from my lg 8300 to the LG 9400. It didn't take long to get used to the upper placement of the keypad. the sound and picture/tv quality are great. The phone is easily handled. Looks good. Big screen.

Now for the down side. I had to return the phone 3x in 2 weeks. Each time they gave me a brand new one as a replacement. The phone has intermittent Blue Tooth issues. It doenst like to Digit dial with the Bluetooth. # different new out of box 9400's and they all did the same thing. I paired the phone with my BT, my wife's and my son's. the phone still had the same issues. We are talking GOOD BT sets. Also the last phone would do weird things and bring up weird stuff for instance when hitting the send button, or speaker button it would bring up other menus intermittently.

Could be a really nice phone..Verizon needs to work out the bugs first.

I returned mine after 3 weeks

I bought this phone as an "upgrade" to my LG VX7000. I returned it after 4 weeks because some of the phone's problems bugged me too much.

Cons:
1. When the battery is low, the phone dies with no warning. Twice in 2 days I was in the middle of a conversation when the phone went silent, vibrated against my ear, and shut off. You couldn't even get 1 more minute of talk time to turn it back on and call someone back to explain your phone was dead. Since I use my phone for work, this was a big annoyance.
2. The vibrate was too weak. I never use a ringtone because I find them annoying. So, a strong vibrate is essential. My "old" VX7000 could wake a sleeping elephant. However, with the VX9400, I was actually missing calls while the phone rang in my pocket.
3. It's hard to hear the other side of the conversation in loud places (bars, conventions, etc.), even at full volume. I didn't have this problem with my VX7000.
4. Though the swivel is very sexy, it's annoying to use when dialing through an automated menu. You see, the phone is hard to hold on your ear when it's swiveled open, so you basically swivel open, hit a number, swivel closed, listen to new options, swivel open again, repeat.
5. There's a noticeable lag when you use the soft button to access the Message Center. I've found other Verizon phones have this, too (like the new KRZR). It's only 1 second, but it's long enough to make you think you may not have hit the button. Plus, you have to go through about 6 or 7 keystrokes to get a new text message addressed to someone.
6. TV reception limited to certain areas. I live in San Francisco, and there was no reception here when I had the phone through May/June.
7. Ringtones given are lame, for those who like them.

Pros:
1. Swivel design is eye catching.
2. Calls can be made, answered, and text's read while swivel is closed.
3. Downloading TV clips from VCast is very cool and look great (but can be expensive).
4. Screen is beautiful.

I enjoy being able to watch TV on my phone. It works great and the display is absolutely phenomenal. It's like HDTV. I recommend you check it out.

Worth Every Penny!!!!

I have had this phone for about a week and I must say, not bad at all. I highly recommend this phone.

Pros:
1)Great sound quality on the phone side. Crystal clear, no muffling, very loud.

2) Speaker phone is great. One of the best speaker phones I have ever experienced on a cell phone.

3)Display is amazing. Very sharp, clear. And big!!!!

4)Mobile TV is something to really experience. With a great signal, it is very clear, smooth, picture quality is great. Even with a weak signal, common sense would show that the picture would be bad, but surprisingly, the picture and sound comes in pretty good.

5)Easy to use. I know there are better UI's out there but it does it's job.

6)Buttons are big enough to text and dial. No mis-dialing because of small keys.

7)Battery life. Maybe because I have only used my phone for a week, but I watch the TV for about a couple of hours a day, keep the phone on through the night and talk about an average of an hour, and the phone last for about 2 1/2 - 3 days. Not bad. I expected a lot worse.

Cons
(now these are cons because I am very picky)

1)Camera could be a little better. All this technology on the phone and only a 1.3 mega pixel camera.

2)DVR??? It has an memory card slot, why not be able to record the shows to watch later. Maybe in the upgrade model.

I have been in the cellular business for about ten years and have gone through over at least 30 phones with every carrier in the U.S. This phone so far works very well, no bugs to report and very easy to use.

I hope Verizon expands the TV Lineup and offers more programming for $25/month. Basic Cable is like $40/month and you get at least 60 channels.

LG always making good devices for Verizon!!!

Mar 26, 2007 by elmer469

well I got the phone on the 23 of march, I currently had a samsung u740 which i purchase at full retail price, i had to exchange it once, then i got tired of the slownest of the phone n i decided to get the 9400 full retail price.

So far im lovin' this phone....
everything is working ok except for the TV feature (which we dont have coverage in LA)and applications can not be purchased when the phone is closed!
and the rest its wonderful
bluetooth has a nice n loud sound(too bad I sold my lg bluetooth stereo headset) which samsung doesnt
speaker and earpiece have a great sound
Im loving that i can make my own ringtones and have unique ringtones

the only problem with the phone (which is personal) is missing the full key pad like the enV! I owned an enV on the past but the phone is getting on everybody's hand(especially verizon employees) so I had to get something different

For the end..... its a great phone n I'll fully recomended to anybody who wants a nice new phone! thanks LG!!!

Nice First Generation V-Cast TV Handset

Apr 3, 2007 by experiment626

Beautiful screen, innovative design to create a Widescreen view.Keypad needs better lighting to illuminate each key entirely.Verizon's V-Cast TV can really be a winner if they commit to adding more channels.$25 for V-TV service plus unlimited EVDO Mobile Web and V-Cast is not bad at all.BTW,"nothing compares to the enVY"doesn't constitute a review of THIS phone.
