First Impressions 8600

I ordered the phone from cust. svc and it arrived yesterday. Here are my early impressions:
-Nice build quality. Nice heft and feel.
-Shiny, so it does get fingerprints and faceprints on the screen.
-3 screen themes, which basically only change the ways the menus appear. No red bars.
-Fair ringtones, but I downloaded some from VZW and am quite impressed at how they sound. Very adequate loudness. Vibrates while ringing if you want.
-Pushing the * button puts the phone in vibrate mode. Nice.
-Buttons are not individualized, but rather push areas on a metal plate. They are smaller than I would have liked, but even with my large hands, I have not had trouble. If I hold it in one hand, dialing is comfortable using the nail part of my thumb....

Taller than 8300. Not as thick though. Same width. Not as wide as razr.

The 8600 int. display is 35 mm wide by 44 mm tall. Unfortunately, I don't have the others to compare to.

To take a picture of yourself, just use the outside display. You don't need a mirror with this phone.

Also, easy shortcut to your Missed and received calls, just hit the SEND key. That will list your calls for you. If there is a blue arrow next to the name, those are recieved calls. A red X means you missed a call, and a green arrow are calls that you've made. Nice and easy 🙂

Great tip for the camera. I noticed that you have to turn the front display on in the options menu. Also, thanks for the tip about missed/received calls. You'd think they would emphasize that in the manual.

Is the type size larger or more readable or similar to the 8300 or others?
Are the displays reasonably readable in sunlight?
Thanks.

With the 8100 you are able to read text messages on the external display. I know you cannot do this with the 8300, what about the 8600, is this option available?

Thought you'd like to know that I got the music essentials kit from the Verizon store (it is the same one as the one for the 8500). Although Bitpim does not list the phone, you can set the program to recognize the phone as LG8500. So, ringtones can be transferred by Bitpim.
