To make your battery last much longer, simply buy a new (replacement) battery and charge it fully before using it in the phone for the first time. VZW will not sell you a phone without activating it, so you will have to buy an extra battery, but it is well worth it.

You can also set the phone to use 1X only if you are not using VCAST or Wireless Web. That will improve battery life big time.
