Indeed.
A perfect example is GoogleMaps
You _can_ use google maps via the browser, but Google also has a maps application (free download, download & install right from the phones own browser too, no pc or hotsync needed) and the app is a zillion times faster and smoother and designed for the small screen and other aspects of using a pda.

Or, if not an application, then simply a wap version of the the site, or at least various key pages. Again Google is a perfect example, so is ebay. they both have wap.google.com and wap.ebay.com. And google's even autodetects that your browser is a pda and switches you to the wap version automatically even if you just typed in or clicked on a link for the normal www.google.com. A wap version of myspace would work on any kind of pda too so it would be less overhead for myspace. An app would need to be compiled for each different kind of mobile OS and CPU, whereas a wap version of a site is little more than alternate versions of web pages that have minimal graphics and no parts that need large PC-only plugins like flash or worse, actual windows executable helper apps.

Meanwhile, it would be sooooo nice if Audible.com would create a wap version of their site so that you could browse for and buy new books from the phone in less than an hour. Audible-Air is great for downloading stuff you already purchased while logged in from your desktop. But gee, I generally download content at the same time I buy it so Audible-Air isn't usually good for much besides getting the latest issues of periodicals. It is POSSIBLE at least to buy content from audible via treo600/650/700. There are no required steps that are actually broken by requiring things the phone simply can't do. But it's painfully excruciating slow and the site doesn't actually render sanely either so it's pretty hard to read and click on links.

I don't know if it's better or worse than myspace. They are both pretty terrible.
