upgrade to 6.0

AT&T has listed the 8525 on its site as upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.0 in Q3. This listing has the AT&T logo (versus the old cingular logo) actually on the phone. They are also selling on their site refurbished 8525's with the cingular logo on the phone but the description doesn't specifically say it is upgradeable. I contacted AT&T and asked if the refurbished ones can be upgraded. All I can get them to say is "it should be". Does anyone know definitively that the older 8525's can be upgraded or will it only be the newer versions with the new logo? (I am thinking maybe there is a firmware and/or other changes on this new logo phone).?? Thanks

I was wondering that myself, in the stores all they have are the Cingular branded ones, and they are cheaper. $300 post rebate. While I would prefer the AT&T branded one, a hundred bux is a hundred bux.

The store I can get it at is a full support store, I can buy it, let them flash it, then pick it up later or the next day. I would do it myself, but if its new, it should be ready to go.

Is it brand new or refurbished. I am seeing the ones for $299 as only refurbished. Did the store make any mention of it being able to be upgraded once the release is available?

Its brand new, it can be upgraded, its cosmetic. Bought it today, flashed it before I did anything, now it says att on start up, works fine, added all my apps, didn't take long. I will wait till this fall for wm6.

All 8525's should be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6 despite the logo or firmware. This device is built by HTC and only adds a few tweaks for ATT. HTC puts out the updates for ATT on their site so the age of the phone is not relevant either since it's less than a year old and really has not changed. I bought one of the first ones when they came out. I have updtaed the firmware to the ATT branded one with no issues and fully intend to update to WM6 when it arrives this month.
Fear not, upgrades can be done. Just make sure to follow the procedure word for word. I always remove the sim card and do a hard reset first. Never had a problem.
