Does the ROM update for the 8525 work on the unlocked TYTN?

try it, I don't think anyone in here would know. I would say yes since the ROM is from the HTC website and not cingular but then again, i don't know.

One problem may be the PTT button. There isn't one one the Tytn, but is on the 8525- I like being able to program the side button on the Tytn to Voice Command, or whatever. If the new rom makes it a PTT you are screwed 'cause you can't program it then.

Yes, but it will 'brand it' with the ATT/Cingular stuff-it WILL NOT lock the device though to ATT, it will still be unlocked.
I'd suggest you look HERE http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board?board.id =cingular & read up on it before you do it. I've done it but don't care for having a problem using isp.cingular for the internet connection.

I unlocked mine a few months ago so I could use it in Canada. I updated yesterday without issue.

On a side note you can now use the PTT feature on the 8525 with the new ROM Update. I added the feature through CS on the phone yesterday and it wasn't quite working correctly. I did the Tech Chat on Cingular's website and they did something on their end now its working great. Love PTT.
Here are the list of changes with the new update:

New Daylight Saving Time rules.
Push To Talk
Cellular Video
"Wireless Modem" is replaced with "Internet Sharing".
AT&T Music
Includes Music player, Shop Music, Music ID, Streaming Music, Music Video and Community.
Access to MediaNet via WiFi without having to change the device connection setting...

My apologies, it was dead earlier but works now. Is there this WM6 update for the 8125?

I would strongly caution you against doing this upgrade. It would be wise to consult HTC tech support BEFORE attempting this upgrade.
The 8525 was customized for Cingular and is based on the TYTN, so there are physical differences that could render your phone partially inoperable or completely bricked.
The idea of having an unlocked, unbranded phone is to be carrier independent. I would even suggest selling the TYTN and buying a new 8525 already updated before fooling with this update.

Are you talking about the new ROM upgrade or the WM6 upgrade? If you're talking about the ROM upgrade it's perfectly fine.
If you're talking about the WM6 upgrade I agree I would wait until AT&T puts i...

Thanks for the help. I may have been a little vague. I don't have a unlocked TyTN, I have an unbranded one, from HTC.

From what I hear you saying, I should stay away from anything associated with att if I want to keep it unbranded. HTC does not have a non-cingular or att rom update.

Thanks for the info. Any other info would be helpful.

That's correct, you'd need to get the updates from HTC to keep it unbranded. HTC sells most of its devices through carriers so they would probably put out unbranded updates last would be my guess.
