Data plan?

I'm pretty sure I will be buying this phone-but I wonder what is real and not real regarding the data plans? Cingy rep pretty much says it's required to have the PDA data plan at $39.99 (no text msgs incl). I already use medianet unlimited on my SE phone and when I asked point blank if I can use my medianet plan on the 8525 she says yes, but I'd be charged if I accessed sites other than WAP. Question then is: how do you get to a site other than WAP if you have only the medianet plan? I'm thinking you can use the medianet plan and only access WAP sites..But if the need to access the full internet when not using wifi is necessary then upgrade to the PDA data plan? Does anybody out there know what the "real deal" here is? Thx!

I have an unlimited data plan and have accessed full blown sites (i rarely use medianet) using both ie and opera mini (i highly recommend). After the 1st month, according to my cell bill, I noticed that I well exceeded the 30mb of data. I can't imagine you being able to alot with 20mb for $19.99. Might as well go with unlimited data.

Opera mini is worth the download - much better viewing than IE. It is nice because it optimizes web sites for your mobile device.

Hope this helps.

That's not what I'm exactly asking. What I'd like to know is if I can use my existing medianet plan to access WAP sites with the 8525 without having to upgrade to the PDA data plan. Thanks.

I have the 8125 with mediamax 1000 and I dont get charged for viewing full html sites. The rep is lying to you. All it means is that if there is a wap page available then you will get the wap version BUT if you download opera mini then you can get html pages for everything. I have been using unlimited medianet plans on pda's for 2-3 years now and not once have i been charged anything for data.

Can you tell me if I will be able to access "full" html with the mediamax plan if it is only provisioned for the wap.cingular APN? Do you need to be provisioned for isp.cingular?

if you use mediamax, you will get wap pages where available via PIE, but if you download opera mini then you will get full html pages on any site.

How do you change phones with cingular without them noticing that your new phone is a PDA phone and give you problems about using their medianet plan? Thanks

You are technically not supposed to use the MediaNet plans with a PDA but a lot do. I for one have an imate jasjam(exactly the same as the 8525 just with a front camera) and i'm on the MediaNet Unlimitted plan. My apn is wap.cingular.com and i've never been charged for any data use. If you switch your apn to isp.cingular.com then you WILL be charged per kb(if your on the medianet plan that is). I get amazing speeds with the wap.cingular.com and stream music via resco radio with barely any breaks. Also PIE can load full HTML pages, i brows facebook, myspace and many other sites not localized for mobile browsing.

Basicly, you can do everything with the MediaNet plan but Cingular doesn't want you using it on a pda so if you get caught they'l...

Thx for the reply! couple things: how does cingular know what phone you're using if it's not theirs? Also-my medianet is provisioned by a special request to access the isp.cingular APN, so I wonder if I'll be charged when I use it on my new 8525?

yeah i have a question also..

i have the lowest dataplan out there... the media bundle for about 9.99 a month

im gettin the 8525 on friday and i wanted to know do i really have to upgrade my plan to really use the WIFI capabilities.

I have a router and a modem at my place so im guessing i should be able to access the internet like how i access the internet with my laptop, without having to pay any fees to cingular that is.
