Suggestions when updating the ROM

There have been a lot posts on sites about problems with the 8525 (or any other phone) after doing ROM updates. I thought I would share my process that may hopefully avoid some issues when doing updates.

To avoid any possible conflicts with hardware and software, try doing these steps.

1. Always backup critical data first
2. Remove any hardware from the device including any flash memory cards. I often even remove my SIM card. Restart phone if necessary.
3. Perform a HARD RESET to get the phone back to factory state. All phones vary on how this is done. Look in your manual or online for your model.
4. Make sure the phone is clear of all messages and at the ready.
5. Connect via USB to Activesync. DO NOT allow it to set up a profile....

is there a way to do the update for 8525 without active sync

this is for a customer help quickly is appreciated

I have never seen an update that did not require a PC to initiate the update on either my Windows or Palm devices. I am curious, why would someone want to update without Activesync.
