any way to speed up v3m?

I have a Razr v3m (Verizon) and like everyone knows, it's often sluggish, i.e. sometimes it takes a second or two to perform a UI action, just opening messages, or if I hit the camera button by mistake, it takes a couple seconds for the cancel button to take effect, etc.

So my question is: is there any way to speed this up? Any way at all (short of using a different phone)? I'm willing to add RAM, hack it, whatever. I'm not all that cell phone-savvy so I'm sorry if those are stupid suggestions. I just like the Razr's design but don't understand why it's so slow. My friend has a much cheaper, seemingly crappier, Verizon phone and the UI is perfectly snappy.

The newest software is 24.1_01.19.07 and many stores don't have it yet. I don't know why that is but my local store has it and it make s this phone as good as any in the line up. CALL BEFORE you head to a store.

Thanks for the advice. My software version says NEWC_01.05.0A. Is that the number you're referring to?

If I have a store update my system software, does it erase everything on the phone (contacts, pics, etc.)?
