V3M Performance (C-)
kierNov 23, 2006, 12:59 PM
Only had my V3M for a month and I'm not very impressed with the perfomance. The volume buttons on the top half of the phone make it cumbersome to adjust. I took many photos but cannot transfer them to my PC with MPT 4.0. The reception is poor in my home, whereas my Nokia 6236i always provided 3-4 bars. The V3M only shows 1-bar typically. Looks like Verizon makes it impossible to transfer photos unless you opt to pay the extra $15 for VCast. My Nokia's PC Suite along with the infrared interface blows away any MPT software. The only advantage to the RAZR is that I can iSync with my MAC iBook. Beside that I wasted $279.00.
Does anyone know if the KRZR for Verizon has improved on the antenna/reception? That is my primary need to get ...

One thing I can tell you is that bars mean very little on the Verizon RAZR. Verizon's new standard menu system uses a 4 bar meter and ironically you can often make calls on 0 bars. The best way to judge signal is to see if you actually drop calls or see "no service" in weak spots. In my experience, the greatest Verizon phones for reception are the Motorola E815 and V325i. My V3m has gotten outstanding signal but phones with extendable antennas do appear to have an edge. My suggestion is further test the RAZR for actual dropped calls/lack of service, and if it is unsatisfactory, it might be worth trading it for a Motorola E815 or V325i.

by the way, using a data cable, Motorola Phone Tools, and Bitpim, I've successfully transferred Mp3's and JPEG's back and forth from the PC to phone. It's not as efficient as unrestricted Bluetooth but that's Verizon's doing so changing phones wouldn't do much. Once you get a data cable and get this software, it becomes much easier to transfer things back and forth. You may have to do a little research on how to get everything working though.

Thanks, just downloaded BitPim. Just awsome! Really blows Motorola Phone Tools 4.0 away. Not as polished as the Nokia equivalent, but down to basics, can do just about everything I need. I also own a MAC running the Tiger OS and cannot wait to give it a run in the MAC arena.
