LG CU500
How to enter subsidy code?
A cingular rep just called me today and gave me a subsidy code to unlock my CU500 phone.
She gave me the following instructions:
1)Put in a non-cingular SIM card into phone. 2)Turn on phone.
3)Press C button.
4)Enter subsidy code.
When I tried, this is what happened:
3) "Invalid Smartchip" is display.
Can't enter subsidy code.
Tried the 277634#*#, but can't access subsidy code.
Need to travel to Asia soon. Anyone have suggestions on how to enter subsidy code?

Don't put in ANY sim card. It is going to give you the "invalid smartchip" message when you put in a non-cingular card. You would only put that in after the phone is unlocked.
So make sure that there is NO sim card in the phone...turn it on....it should say "insert sim card". Then follow the unlock instructions. After the phone is unlocked, try your sim card.

Thanks to LG and Cingular, the unlock instructions for the CU500 is still a mystery, shrouded by secrecy, protected by corporations, and hidden somewhere inside a fortune cookie.

At the Cingular forums, someone claims the following will work:

On the next screen enter your unlock code then press OK.
