A990 Gripes

I've been using the A990 for four months now. I would not recommend it for high-end users or for every-day users who live in an area with low signal reception. Here's a list of things that drive me crazy about this phone. I think this list captures all my gripes. If I forgot anything, I'll add it later. This is my first verizon/samsung phone, so some of these complaints may apply to most such phones. My reference for comparison (i.e. my previous phone) is a Sony Ericson T610.

(level of annoyance out of 10 is in parentheses)

1. (😎 You can't talk too loud when recording a memo or it mutes and records intermittent bits of nothing.
2. (10) Very poor signal reception - I can't use the phone in my apartment because I constantly lose ...

I agree with most of what you said...but my biggest issue is with the signal quality (or lack of). I've had Samsung phones previously and the phones were great. This one sucks. Don't buy it.

I use this phone as an everyday business phone. The only thing that really sucks with this phone is signal strength as with all samsungs. Hello Moto or LG, can you make a comparible phone for Verizon?

I agree with a few things and not at all with some others.

Have you got the new software update? That will help with a few of your problems.

Also, as far as number 16 goes, I have my phone text default to word mode.

OK, you're right. I found the place to change the default method of text entry and now have it set to word. I take number 16 back.

Here's another one.

17. (4) Setting to beep volume for key pressed in navigating menus does not affect the volume of the beep sound when going from the bottom menu item to the top menu item or vice versa. When I'm trying to be quiet, I have to be very careful I don't click down past the last item in any select list or I get a loud beep!

I've got a new one. It took me awhile to figure out what causes this one to happen:

23. (5) When you say, "Call John Doe, Mobile", it calls John Doe's Mobile *1* by default since there's only 1 mobile number listed for him - that's good. But when you say "Call John Doe", you're asked "Which number?". When you say "Mobile", it asks again "Which number: mobile *1*" even though it figured it out on its own when you spoke it in one go without saying the "1". This happens when John Doe has other numbers in his contact listing (e.g. work number, home number, etc.). If it's smart enough to figure it out when you say "John Doe, Mobile", it should be smart enough to figure it out when you respond "mobile" when there's only one mobile number f...
