This phone is ugly, and was a waist of time. Why would they just remake the same model with HSDPA, should had came out with a entirly new design with a couple of more extra features. Get the LG its better. atleast untill Sony Ericsson come out with there HSDPA phone in america

thank you, thats exactly what I mean. I dont' know what the hold up is. Samsung normally makes really good sexy phones like the ones for verizon and sprint but they seem to be giving cingular there backwater projects. O well when that nokia and sony comes out just realise how good of a phone it will be running on HSPDA goodness

Thats about it, still ugly, till unavative. I know they need to come out with basic models to appeal to the crowd who don't want to pay to much on a phone, but a big break through like HSDPA needs some flagship models like verizons A990, when they first came out with EV-DO they have top of the line phones. Hopefully by next year cingular will start showing some progress in there mobile technology. Sprint and Verizon are already announcing EV-DO revision which is as fast as HSDPA and verizon is annoucning flash interfaces on there phones next year. What do's that mean? That means they will be the closets to matching the technologies in Japan.

Still....I'm rooting for cingular.

EVDO doesn't touch HSDPA, not even close. Put them side by side and compare and you'll see what I'm talking about....

He's right, take a V3m and a CU500 and put them side by side and load a web page.

That's right. EVDO is faster than the current version of HSDPA. EVDO tops out at 2.4 mbps, while current HSDPA phones like the CU500 can only do 1.8 mbps.

You talking about EV-DO rev A vs HSDPA? That's different.

No, I'm talking about current EVDO r0 networks.

EVDO rA will boost download speeds even further, and boost upload speeds way above anything HSDPA offers. Cingular will need HSUPA to fully compete with EVDO rA.

To be fair, there are HSDPA 3.6 mbps phones coming, possibly before the end of the year. Those will give Cingular the lead in (theoretical, peak) download speed on the phone. EVDO rA only offers 3.1 mbps.

Of course these are all theoretical peak numbers. Real-world speed is a different animal, and can vary wildly based on conditions.

Right now a Cingular HSDPA phone may out-perform an EVDO phone simply because Cingular's 3G network is very lightly loaded, while Verizon and Sprint certainly have many more users on their 3G n...

Fair enough. Well then Rich, I think everyone's thinking this so I'll go ahead and say it, what do you think is better? CDMA or GSM? Let's hear it.

well, I hate to nitpick, but voice is data. also, HDSPA has a theoretical peak of 14.4 Mbs down..

And tI know the requirement of EvDo to have a dedicated 1.25 mhz I don;t know how you mean the GSM/WCDMA networks "seperate" the "3G" traffic I could very well be uninformed on that..

Also, EvDO rev0 does not have significantly faster uplink speed. RevA will complete the the up and down inprovement

Hence EvDO Rev0 kinda like HSDPA (HSDPA is faster theoretically 14.4 vs 2.76) thats down and is faster up (2Mb theoretically vs .15Mb)

and EvDO RevA(3.1 down/1.8 up) almost like HSDPA/HSUPA(14.4 down/5.75 up)

thx

Not when it comes to cellular networks... or any kind of telecom. Yes, it's all digital at some point, but there's a huge difference between circuit switching and packet switching, and a huge difference betweeen IP and non-IP.

also, HDSPA has a theoretical peak of 14.4 Mbs down.

🤣 No, it doesn't. That's essentially a myth. There's a standards group that has said in theory, they think they could develop something based on HSDPA that would go that fast, but the current version of HSDPA has a theoretical peak rate of 3.6 Mbps.

And tI know the requirement of EvDo to have
