Please confirm this: can you access the Services Menu by pressing Menu, then 0 (zero), then 000000 (six zeroes)?

Does this phone have the VZW UI?

Thanks in advance.

In the services menu, is there an option to turn off the power save so the external display stays on all the time?

Boothie, I'm curious of why you want the external display on all the time? With my VX4500, if the external display is off, I just press the volume side keys momentarily, and it will turn on. With the display off, it helps save battery, I guess.

I like to be able to see the missed calls and voice mail indicators by just glancing at the phone rather than having to push a button. I like this feature especially when I'm driving, because I miss a lot of calls when going through a no service area or if I have the radio too loud, and it's nice to just be able to glance at it rather than having to pick it up. Just a personal preference.

Okay. I understand. I just came from the vzw store and in the Display settings, the longest that the external display can be set to on is 30 seconds. I tried the service menu but I forgot to check there if there is an override for setting the external display to always stay on. I'll check it out tomorrow.

I went to the VZW store today and played with the 5300. I did find that in the services menu, there is a power save option which by default is set to Yes. I changed it to No. I would think this would make the external display stay on all the time, but it still shut off after a few seconds. I then went over to the 8300 and tried turning off the power save option, and I had the same problem. What exactly does it do when you turn off the power save?

Is the option you're refering to on the Services menu under (2)Field Tests -> (😎Power Save Mode ?
'Cause there is another place refering to power:
(10) Battery Test -> (1) Battery Setting.
My VX5300 then displays:
LCD Backlight ON
Key Light ON
Power Save OFF
and allows me to chose 'Yes' or 'No'
BUT doesn't matter which I chose - doesn't change anything - WTF!? 🤨
Does anyone know of a guide for what all the Services menu options are for?

Hey Boothie, I'm looking for a new phone, the most important think I care about is staying connected, that's part of why I want to stay tri-mode. You spoke about no service areas. Right now I car pool with a guy, we both have verizon service and 2 year old phones, mine is samsung, his is LG, there are many times I keep my signal and he does not, yet we are both on verizon. Are you losing you signal because you live somewhere with weak service or do you think it's the phone? I'm in the north east and have continuous service just about everywhere on my samsung, but like the 5300 for it's tri mode support and it's the newest. What do you think?

I live in the northeast as well. I'm not always sure if I lose signal because of my phone or a weak service area. In my house, sometimes I'll hold a call just fine, and other times I'll drop it 5 times in 10 minutes. I called Verizon and they did say that one of the towers near me is having problems. I currently have the Motorola v325, which is supposed to be one of the better ones in terms of signal strength and reception. It's the only phone I've been able to make a decent analog call with.

Thanks, jdr30.

Thanks for your review. I see that you do DUN! I do, too, with my VX4500. What is your current plan? I have Mobile Web with my Plan (old one - I haven't taken my NE2 yet) and I use my minutes when I DUN with my laptop or PDA. Do you use BT with DUN or cable?

Thanks in advance.
