Built in GPS work with Prepaid?
Since the built in GPS is "assisted" by the cell towers will it be using minutes? Or will those of us that use pre-paid plans not get to use the GPS functionality?

It makes sense that the HP & others aren't going to try to explain the difference, given the confusion that could arise. In some ways, it works better than GPS (since it works indoors).
It most certainly does have AGPS logic. When you dial 911 (or some other location aware 'application' wants location) a network entity tells the phone where to take measurements (which satellites are currently within view). The raw data is sent back to the entity who requested it and location is calculated. The phone really has no idea where it is at.
