Can you tell me more about a release date from Cingular? I have an 8125 I'm holding til the 6940/6925 comes out and Cingular has agreed to let me swap free of any charges. 😳

Both companies use both frequencies. in arizona for example, cingular only runs 1900mhz. so those of you with nokia 1101s the east coast are pretty much screwed when you come here.

Looking at the specs for the 6940 on this site and you click on the 850mhz info link it seems it should work on 800mhz also. Does this mean if one had an unlocked iPAQ it could work with Verizon????

Why cant it release for BOTH carriers? There is no law saying only ONE carrier can sell a device, and if memory serves correctly, HP & T-Mobile partnered together for the first two HP iPaqs.

I think this sounds like a really cool device and I will definitely pick one up to supplement my SDA.

T-Mobile only carried one iPaq and they're not going to carry this phone becase they just released the SDA and the MDA.

The big issue is leverage. The big carriers, Cingular and Verizon are negociating exclusive deals with phone makers. There is so much competition for devices now that mfg's can't afford to do an exclusive deal with small carriers like T-M because they don't have the subscriber base to support the cost of developing high end devices.

Similiar to the Treo 700 with Verizon. Never mind the fact that the Treo 650 while popular was a huge failure because of it's problems. Latest rumor is that Cingular wants nothing to do with a GSM version of the 700 because of the failure rate of the 650s.

Webdr,

how could you say the treo 650 is a failure? i live in NYC and virtually everybody has a 650, a 700, etc. there has been a huge increase in sales of these things, particularlly when blackberry was going through the recent lawsuits. check out the wall street journal land you'll see.

just trying to understand where you are getting info on the 650's being a huge failure. don't understand. i have one and it's pretty good actually. most ppl i know don't have severe problems with it, just a few here and there. all i can say is that it kicks my former kyocera 7135's ass (far far far less issues) thx!

thx.

I base this on my own personal experience.

Three Treo 650's in six months. The GSM version is seeing a failure rate of about 1.5% which is 1% higher than what most carriers consider acceptable.

Repeat failures (people who have had the same device failure after it was replaced) is in the neighborhood of 5% indicating that Palm is not taking the problem seriously.

I understand that this phone is very popular, my points are in terms of my own personal experience with the device and the information I have seen.

I talked to a Cingular sales Rep a few weeks ago when I was at my local store and asked them when it would be released. They said Cingular is discontuning it's HP line and will not be providing this phone in favor of the more popular, and superior, HTC series (8125).
