VX-8300 and Bluetooth

Appreciating the advice in advance.

My parents (not the world's most technically skilled people) purchased the VX-8300 and a Moto H500 headset. They don't seem to work very well at all. I have a V710 and a Plantronics 640 that I have used for about a year without a problem. I had a hard time getting the H500 to work with my phone too.

Is the H500 crap or does the VX-8300 have BT issues and if so, what BT headset works well with the VX-8300?

Thanks

There's a lot of discussion on this forum, so you should do a search on 'bluetooth'. That being said, here's a summary of what I've found:

1) If your 8300 does not have version 3 of the software, go to a verizon store and have it upgraded (at no charge). If you're not sure what version you have, search this forum for instructions. The upgrade doesn't guarantee anything, but supposedly there are some bluetooth improvements in the upgrade, so you don't want to be trying new headsets until you've upgraded

2) Even with the upgrade, the consensus is that the 8300 has problems with bluetooth, period, because so many people who have tried so many different headsets have had completely inconsistent (and usually poor) results.

3) Notwiths...

Thanks. I read the postings, but most seemed older, I wanted to hear what people's experience was with new headsets and the software upgrade. Given all the great things people say about the phone, it's kind of surprising how much trouble it has on a basic use.

Can one choose not to use Bluetooth on this model? Does it have the jack for a wired headset?

It has a wired headset jack. It also supports stereo for mp3/wma playback.

I had nothing but trouble with 2 Logitech travellers and also the HS850.
Since upgrading ver.03 2 weeks ago the HS850 has been perfect. no echo no disconnects or audio problems. also distance improved to about 20 to 25'

With V03 firmware, the Jabra BT350 I have works well with the 8300. Keep in mind for your folks that some headsets like this one require an understanding of its key presses.

For example, when it's on, you tap the headset button once for voice calling, hold it down 1-2 seconds for redialing the last number, and about 5-6 seconds to turn it off.

If they can't get that, then they're going to be redialing a lot. You may want to check out how complex a headset's command features are before buying one, if your folks aren't all that tech savvy. No offense intended, just that it takes a little bit to learn.

I just purchased the Jabra BT150. I tried the HS850, H700, Jabra bt350 and the Plantronic Voyager 510. I did like the 510 very much but it was too bulky and the power button was so small and hard to press, sound quality was very good. My second choice was the H700 it was ok but sometimes I would hear a little static and background sound. So...I finally read the review for the Jabra BT150 and it got pretty good reviews. I bought one to try out and this was the best bluetooth out of all these that I mentioned. Sound quality is very good, very few static, background noise is not bad, other end can hear me well. Only drawback is when you raise the volume the other end will hear an echo. So you have to keep the volume a little above medium...
