2 questions
One annoying thing which i think is an LG feature but...is there anyway to have the phone closed and still use the speakerphone?
Second...about the Plantronics 512 bluetooth headset..does it not work at all with this phone?

No, you cannot use the speakerphone with the phone closed. On the 8100, if you had the speakerphone function turned on, then plugged in a wired headset, initiated a call, closed the phone, and then unplugged the wired headset, you could trick it into working with the phone closed. Haven't tried this with the 8300, so can't say. Seems like too much hassle anyway.

Nice post InsuranceMan... it does indeed work wotk the 8300. I just tried it. Finally a way to use the speaker phone with the phone closed. [provided you have your head set handy to Plug in, Make the call, Close the phone, Unplug the Head set and YOU'RE IN BUSINESS] !!!
Additional note: It works either way... speaker phone "on" or "off" prior to plugging in the head-set ie... no need to even turn speaker phone on 1st... just:
-plug in headset,
-call,
-close phone,
-unplug headset
