This works well for me. If it's overkill, pårdon me...

Here's a program to easily make quality ringtones, Audacity, which is compatible for both Mac and Windows. And it's small and free.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ » (For Macs.)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ » (For Windows.)

And to save your audio to MP3, you'll need to download a small, free program, which then works in tandem with Audacity.

It works beautifully. It's also pretty easy to learn and use.

Here's a step-by-step to make ringtones for your 8300:

I drag the song to my desktop, open Audacity and choose File and Open, and select the song (I have the song file in AIFF). I then use the se...

Maybe I should change my name to "The Pimper."

So many of the questions asked are answered there, but I know people want to cut down their learning curve, and so fire off a quick question.

Over the winter my kids often cry out, "Mom!? Where's my jacket?" And you know what her answer is - "In the closet, where it's supposed to be."

I think of that link as a closet...

Sincerely,
The Pimper

I have tried using Audacity and ended up completely immersed in an inkwell. It was totally incomprehensible. So I went back to just directly recording off my CD player (the songs went into My Sounds) and then sending them to myself and downloading them as ringtones. They came out really good. I only recorded the first 30 seconds or so of each song so that when they when into the phone memory they would take up a minimum of kilobytes. Just remember to set your Master Volume to high. I also turned on the speakerphone, although I am not sure if this was necessary. I set the memory for My Sounds to the memory card. Good luck.

The best way is to get a data cable and make your ringtones 30 seconds and use bitpim to transfer them to the phone. I got the cable from verizon with the essentials pack. I have done alot of this, and this is the only way to get full 128Kb 44100Hz ringers. They sound just like the music does when you play it through the speakers on the phone. There is also a way to save the ringtones on the microSD card and use those as ringers so space limitations aren't a problem. If you need any help getting this to work, let me know.

I have synched songs onto the micro SD card using the music essentials kit, but it appears there is no way to use these songs as ringtones. If you know how to do this, could you clue me in? Thanks.

Yes, you can.
They must be reduced in duration (to no more than 350kb), but you can use them and they work well.
