so ive been making and sending my own ringtones to my new 8300 but they sound like crap. they are muffled and scratchy at times. it sounds like it would be turned up to loud. but the thing that throws me off is the 'i love lucy' theme song sounds super clear! all ringtones that i make at 128 kb and about 35 seconds long.

i dont get it.

also songs on my mp3 player sound really good too...just ringtones

cut them down to 30 seconds and like 60ish kb range then e-mail them to your phone, they sound awesome...if you use audactiy, make sure you increase the volume to a louder setting before you save it.

Very good advice.

I leave the quality high and cut them down to about 20 seconds. And as matrix2004 wrote, increase the volume on them to between 5 and 7. Otherwise the ringtones will be too quiet.

How exactly do you "increase the volume"? Are you talking about the "Amplify" feature on the effect menu?

You will see a small speaker on the top left edge with a slider bar next to it. If you click on it and hold, it will tell you what the volume setting is, and if you drag it, you can take it higher.

? I've already got that maxed out (at 1.0). Then I'm amplifying on top of that. I wonder if I'm doing something else wrong.

They sound like crap because they get converted to qcp files if they are larger than about 350kb as an attachment. I'm not sure of the exact limit, but I noticed the smaller ringtones would show up as a midi attachment and they would sound great. I finally gave up and got a cable. The best way is to get a data cable and use bitpim, but if you don't want to do that, then you will need to make your ringtones smaller.

oh..i forgot to mention, after i save the mp3 to my computer, i change the file extension from .mp3 to .mid then e-mail it...If you e-mail it as a mp3, it will sound crappy on your phone.
