Anyone know if I can get a data cable for the 8300? I didn't get the VCast music deal, but want to put music on the phone.

probably not, but if you get the cable it comes with pretty good headphones. not bad for 30 bucks I don't think. plus the correct software and drivers for the cable.

the new ones do. Check the box. if it just says 8100 then it wont. But if it says 8100 and 9800 on it it will.

You don't need the cable to get music onto the phone. First, you need to enable the mp3 capability on the phone. Press Menu + 0> enter service code 000000. This is the service menu, from here scroll all the way to the bottom, choose music options. Change this to MP3. This overrides the Vcast Music function. Then, you must have an SD card. format the card on the phone, which will put on the necessary files in order for the mp3's to play, then transfer the files from your computer to the SD card, and you are set.

I've done this as well but it would be nice to have another option for transferring mp3s onto the phone (I'm afraid I'm going to rip the door off the phone and the cards are sooo small).
I purchased the correct music essentials kit (the one that says it's compatible with the 8100 and 9800). Unfortunately the cable is not working for me. My entire music collection is stored as mp3s. When I sync the phone with the computer the only folder available to transfer songs onto is the music folder (when I transfer songs directly onto the card there is a mp3 folder). I transfered a couple of mp3s onto the music folder but they are discarded by the phone. I also tried letting the WMP sync the files but the program has an compatibility error due t...

I also had a few problems syncing music to my phone. At first, while syncing, the phone would reboot. Per VZW tech support, I swapped my phone for a new one. But, it still didn't work. I tried every combination of installing / uninstalling the drivers and it still didn't work. On Friday afternoon though I noticed my phone was off. I turned it back on and thought, why not try syncing now. It worked, they must have pushed an update. Give it a shot now.

As far as the music folder, that is the only folder you will see on the phone, the sync places the tracks in there. My collection is also comprised of MP3's, WMP converts them to WMA files.

As far as the music kit, the drivers and WMP sync process is buggy. Although syncing wor...

I've just gone thru three Mobile office kits from Verizon for the LG 8300. Each of them said it was for the 8100 but each time support told me it would connect to the 8300. The connections aren't alike at all and there's no way they were going to connect. Other than shipping boxes back and forth with Verizon (which will be a nightmare when my bill comes) I've not been able to find a cable for my 8300

I'm wanting to both tether the phone to my computer for Verizon's "high speed" Internet access as well as use it to transfer my phone book and custom ring tones.
I've been a cell phone user since 1986 and every other phone I've had, the cable does both tasks.

well I'm not sure if there is a mobile office kit for the 8300 (as verizon is trying to get rid of them) Secondly I'm not sure if the music essentials kit will provide the right software to use your cable for that purpose. Lastly if you are trying to use your phone as a modem, you will need to add a data package to your account. This is something that used to be possible without a package, but they have ways now to tell and you don't want to get hit with that bill.

The 8300 just came out. Why do you say Verizon is trying to get rid of them?
I've not seen the music kit for the 8300 but I have tried to buy mobile office and it doesn't seem to exist yet. That's the cable I need, but it probably is the same as the music kit. I wish I had access to try.
I'm not concerned about the bill for data. I pay my bill and I subscribe to the high speed service when I'm using it. I don't steal from anyone. It's not about getting caught. It's about doing the right thing.

I ordered the music essentials kit for the 8300 over the phone through customer service. Not the same as the kit for the 8100. I'm not sure if this cable will work for your purposes though.

Just buy a card reader and you do not need the cable. You simply transfer your mp3s unto you card via card reader/writer
