LG8300 Battery & First Impressions

WOOHOO!! 😁 I finally got it (ordered online and it came within 1 business day!!). Immediate impression:

- Looks & feels fantastic. Sleek, professional, nice color. Fits in hand well and keypad is good.

- One thing (NOT at all important): The little piece that you have to take off to charge the phone is sure to get lost! Should've been made to stay on or don't put it there at all.
I called CS to find out about charging and they said to initally charge fully for 8 hrs and then use the phone and allow to discharge fully. Then re-charge it again to have the phone save to it's memory.
My question: How long/often should you charge? I've also know you can't keep the phone on the charger more than maybe 4 hrs a day or you'll...

It said charge complete so I shouldn't keep it on there, right?

🤣 If it says charged you don't have to keep it on there. Glad you like your phone.

I just got a more accurate answer from an obviously more knowledgable customer svc person. That other rep musta been new!! For anyone who may not know:
- Initially when you get the phone it has a slight charge and you should discharge it completely & then charge fully (~2hrs).
- To train the phone to know it's battery level you should discharge it again 2-3 times. She said the phone doesn't need to be charged until 1-2 bars is showing and only for 2 hrs (this is the only part I knew 🤣 ).

The outside display on this phone is great. I used to have the LG4400 and most recently the LG 3200(replacement phone) so this is a great upgrade for ME!!! 😁

Well im glad your happy with the phone, i am too. That was a big upgrade for you as i came from the 8100, i do like the old display on the 8100 but i will be fine without it. I see no reason why they wont patch this phone to get text on the outside.

As for the battery, the one i got with the 8300 sucked but it didnt last long at all. Luckily i just recently got a new battery thanks to a little bitching at verizon for my 8100 and it lasted a very long time so i just swapped. I may take that battery back and exchange it as well but at the moment its not a priority.

i switched over to cingular was not happy with verizons phone selection at all. did check out this phone was ok nothing to write home about. but i saw this battery issue and since i have been going through a lot of phones lately i figured this might help you guys. go to this link will give you the best way to care for your battery. usually what the reps tell you is what you should be doing with a nickel battery and it is not correct for the li-ion. hope this helps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_batt ery

No, no, no...I'm a Verizon sales rep and we always tell our customers to not use their phone until they leave it on the charger for AT LEAST 8-10 hours...It says "Charge Complete" after 2 hours, but you're definitely supposed to leave it on there 8-10. Otherwise the battery won't hold its charge as long and it will go bad faster! 😢 Might save you the price of a battery in the long run...

think about this. assuming you're charging your battery with the phone off(always the best idea) when the phone says charge complete it stops taking any power from the charger. nothing is happening for those extra 6 hours that you leave it on. except you wishing you could make a phone call.
cheers

People still dont understand that lithium ion batterys dont suffer from the same problems that regular nickel metalhydride batteries do. You can charger the phone how ever many times you like. the battery wont get that ohh its not gonna hold a charge if you mess with it too much and you need to fully discharge. With lithium batteries all you need to do is fully charge the battery (the phone stops charging the battery when its done. virtually every modern electronics has this now.) and every 30 days discharge it fully and recharge it.

There is one other point however that is usually over looked. What you said is correct for Li batteries. However, they still have a projected number of charge cycles to their life. When a Li battery has been charged x number of times, it then does start charging to a lower and lower level, until it dies. A single charge cycle could be a small "top off" charge when the battery is only say 25% discharged, or it could be a full charge when the battery is 90%+ discharged. It is still one full charge cycle and limits the remaining cycles until the baterry starts to die. So on that basis, it is a good idea to wait as long as you can to re-charge, in order not to waste charge cycles.

Thanks for your post, it saved me having to point it out. Doesn't anyone in Verizon know that phones have used LI batteries for years now? NMH disappeared quite awhile ago,

Well, I doubt that many people understand about charge cycle life. Its usually not in the documentation, and you have to dig pretty deep into battery tech to find out about that little detail. It was also true for NmH batteries, but with those they were more worried about memory, the same as with NiCad's.
