thanks for the review. Say, where do you learn all this stuff about how to "load full movies and tv shows" and what does VZ Navigator do? I can't believe how much these phones can do now. I'm moving to an 8300 from an LG 4400.

www.Howardforums.com, look under the verizon wireless section, then LG Phone section. There are full forums of info. VZ Navigator is a GPS voice-activated navigation system that provides turn-by-turn directions, and maps.

wow.. a lil disappointed i must say. my lg8000 has a sharp bright crisp outer screen, when i contemplated the 8100 and saw that the outer screen clarity was dismal in comparison to my 8000, i didnt buy it, then to read that the 8300 outer screen is even more dismal than the 8100? that must be a pretty crummy outer screen then....... yuk.
and i love to be able to read my text messages with my phone closed. those two reason would be enough for me not to get the 8300.
LG get your s(it together and make your screens bright and crisp not crappy. i will still however check the 8300. im certainly not going to buy it based on someone elses opinion. But if the outer screen turns out to be as crappy as this reviewer writes i would stick to my 8000 ...

p.s. why pay 250.00 for a phone (out of pocket) for an unclear screen?
That is absolutely inexcusable in the age of cell phone technology.

WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE, ARE THEY ABLE TO MAKE THE OUTER SCREEN BRIGHTER AND CLEARER?
that would be worthwhile

It's not that the screen is blurry or bad, it's that compared to the LG VX-8000, it sucks. And why wouldn't it? The 8000's external caller id display is better than most handsets displays altogether, the 8100/8300's external display is of an inferior quality, put in there to cheapen the phone's end cost and also increase battery life.

I'd only be willing to sacrifice the battery life of these phones if I can do everything with the phone without opening it up.

Actually, the vx8100's external screen is better than the 8300's as well. However, I am very pleased with my 8300. I have the vx8000, 8100, and now the vx8300, and I am happy with the 8300.

I mean......the vx8000's was the sharpest, then the 8100, then the 8300, then vx7000. The outer display on this phone is sharper than the vx7000's, but not quite as sharp as the one on the vx8100's

The LG VX-8000 was released in March of 5. It was meant to be the Verizon flagship phone for the EV-DO rollout, but it was obscurbed instantly when they announced the 8100. The phone features a very sharp outside caller ID display that you can access an MP3 player with no (initially) conceivable way to add MP3s to the device. That display also allowed you to take pictures/movies with the phone closed, and also view your image gallery.

The phone, however, is huge. I mean, the design is extremely bulky and the internal screen is nice and crisp (except is worthless if you're outside). The keypad is also nice and big, like they made it for old people.

If they could only keep the 8000 design and put all the features of the 8300...

See my other post... I though did not think that the phone was that big. Just not rounded corners. I think that the speaker phone was is better on the 8000 than on the 8100. As i Said I have 2 of them I got the 8100 in Jan and like it as well I love LG and really have had no problems with any of them except I hated the 510 there first phone. then I had the vx10 vx1 like I said I have had all of them except I never got the 6000

i dont about that my lg8000 is sooooo great on battery life and i dont have an upgraded battery. so if thats the reason why their external screen stink. i would save my money. u get what you pay for. id be willing to pay more for a piece of good quality product. im not willing to pay 250.00 (which is a significant piece of change) for a phone that has an "inferior" outer screen. anyone who would doesnt have much sense

did anybody read the spec sheet??? 8300 external display is 96x96 compared to the 8100 with 128x128. both 65,000 color. the 8000 was 128x160 with 262,000. i could have told you the screen would be worse about two weeks ago. to be honest the 8000's external screen is kinda overkill in my opinion. i would have liked to see the screen stay the same on the 8300 but if they're gonna have it out at 50 bucks i can't really complain. really wish they would let you answer text from the outside though.

It's not the size that counts.....

Yes the 8000 has the largest exernal display, then the 8100, and lastly the 8300.
But the reason the 8300 sucks is because it is not a TFT. It is using the new OLED which uses the lease battery power.

I love my 8000's external display.
It's the only phone where the external is as good as the internal.

also you stated that you can email yourself the mp3 ringers to 10digitnumber@vzwpix.com, but can you accually set tghem as ringtones or do they just go into the sounds folder like the 8100, or do we need to use bitpim again to set personal ringers? thx
...

May 31, 2006, 9:47 PM
Yes the outer buttons light up in blue.........yes u can set them as ringtones....infact, when u open the pix message containing your mp3 tone, choose "option" and it gives u the choice to: "save sound", or "save as ringtone". 😎

how about voice memos as ringtones? seems this would be pretty easy as they used to have it on the 7000 and 8000 back when i was using the pix message to ringtone idea.

as for reading txt on the outside display, did you check out the shortcut key option under tools? just a thought. also i know you went under services menu, did you check there to see if there's anything that might enable it?
thanks for the review by the way.

It doesn't appear that you can set voice memo's as ringers. Only items saved in "ringtones"section will work. However, if you record your voice memo...u have the option to email it to yourself(your phone) as a pix message, then save as a ringer. 😎
