flash ui is over rated

Okay, everyone is sweatin the flash UI...all it does is allow users to change the color. It's still the verizon UI, just in gray or orange, or blue, or whatever color you pick. This does not solve the problem of the UI (atleast for me) I want more functionality, not more colors...I'll get excited when verizon finally gets this UI right and stops pushing get it now and vast features.

Actually you are only half right. The new flash UI not only allows you to change the colors of the "red bars" but it also gives you a few new options for a completely different look/feel. The basic structure of the UI cannot be changed but the manner it is presented to the end user can now be somewhat customized.

You can just change the colors if you want, but you can do a lot more than that, too. Check out our video tour of it:

I'm going to buy this phone and have watched the video several times, and still under the impression that new flash UI only offered color change/ color change themes.

What are we missing please????

The video shows it all. You can change the red bars to blue, etc, or you can change the whole style of it to something totally different, with different fonts, graphics, backgrounds, animation, etc.

The basic layout and of course the menu options themselves don't change, which is a good thing for usability.

In the video it seemed like scrolling through the menus was a little sluggish...Was this the case with your experiences? If so, do you know/think it will be smoothed out by release?

Thanks

That's a good question.

That is exactly the kind of thing they are likely to try to improve in the final stages of tweaking. How successful they are is something we'll have to wait and see when the final version hits stores.

Although the flash UI is better than the original Verizon UI, it's still too basic. What happened to metallic menu bars and nice fonts on the new Motorola and Samsung phones? I hope they offer a wider variety of "skins" after the release. Those new signal bars are weird looking, and at least when in escalated form one can tell by glance, now they have to count bars as they're all the same size. I want to see the new UI be more like Sprint's standard.

My original statement was pretty much correct. Its really just a cosmetic fix. It doesnt change the lack of functionality of this ridiculous UI. I dont care about animated icons, fonts, or colors...hell, they can make the uI poop brwon if they gave me more choices in functionality and ease of use. I am still dissapointed, and all this flash UI does is give verizon a reason to sell its customers more crap. If they really cared, they would offcr the manufactures UI or their own. Thats really all people want.

You can slap some chrome 20's on a hooptie, but deep down it's still a hooptie....this pretty much sums up my feelings on the Flash UI

you amke no sense, if you can personalize the ui whats the problem, everyone bitched about the red bars, now you can get rid of them, make the icons how you want, change font color, make the banner different colors, even change the menu layout, plus this phone will offer video wallpaper, so why the complaining. Their was nothing wrong with the standard ui, just the fact that you had to stare at annoying red bars and couldn't do anything with the menu layout. You sound like someone who is just never pleased. Your hooptie doesn't make much sense, verizon is alowing you to now change the color of you hooptie and the wy it looks? Yes the 8300 is an 8300 and no matter what you do with the ui it will still be an 8300? so what's your point, as long...

thank you armySF, you are right, and I think you get what I am saying. You basically repeated my point yeahright....I DONT CARE ABOUT THE COLORS, and i don't have a problem with a standard UI...however, the UI is geared towards people who needs a "simple" UI...I am not one of those people...Use a audiovox 9900 for a day and you will see what is so great about not having to use the standard UI.

i have used that phone. i have used a lot of phones. Why do you want it to be complicated is what i don't understand. They are not removing options from the menu, just organizing them in a simple matter. People like armsf tick me off because all i ever read is how they can't get rid of the red bars and their was no customization. Verizon is letting you change the look and get rid of the red bars, now you complain about that. Just don't get it. I have used standard audiovox, standard moto, samsung and lg, verizon ui is the easiest to use and why would you not want it to be easy and fast. Why would you want it all complicated so it takes longer to do what you want? Remember changing ringtones on moto's ui, that was stupid. I like the ui just h...

I liked the verizon UI, until a used a few other UI, and for ME, they were more useful and easier to use. I am not really bashing the UI, I understand why they did it, and its prolly been great for a lot of people. The one feature that I really want is to be able to customize the directional buttons...these are your hotspots, and VZN uses for the vcast and get it now crap, and then you cant change it...its just frustrating, these for are too expensive not to be able to do what I would like with them...I know it sounds like I will never be happy, but trust me, I am not that guy, I just want a few changes and I will be happy...I will prolly try the 8300 and hopefully it will be a little more along the lines of what I want.

i do like the ability to have shortcut keys, But hey they are getting better, i just see it as a step in the right direction. My razr does allow you to program the down button, but not all of them. But all the things i would want a shortcut key to are already one button solution on this ui anyways, messaging, recent calls, voicemail, camera/video, silent mode, phonebook, play button for music, so that doesn't bug me that bad.

I see your point, and I really don't mean to be super negative about this phone, I think the 8300 is a huge step forward for VZN...I just hope this flash UI really is a step towards more customization for the verizon UI.

I know what you mean about the "D-pad" But on the old Manufactures UI the shortcuts were still used by verizon... the only one you could personalize were the Moto's, and i really liked it but the VZW UI didn't change anything they haven't been doing for a while now with those shortcuts, and most phones do give you atleast 1 shortcut, and yeahright is correct in saying that there are many other one touch keys availible for things like camera msging, voice dial, phonebook, volume, vibrate. All one buttom commands. And when i do use get it now or Mobile web its easy to access. (LG vx 7000 First VZW UI no vcast)

Okay, me personally, I am all about customization. I loved the E815 b/c of the different skins. I'm not a fan of the VZW UIs b/c of its simplicity ...

... however, that's the point. As a representative, one of the biggest things I get is this ... "I'm not too sure about upgrading to a new phone, I just learned all of the menus and features for this one!" Let me remind you guys that the users on these forums (the hardcore users) probably represent 5-10% of VZW's customers. The rest of them are probably average Americans that could give a damn about it and want simplicity. As they upgrade between phones, they will love the fact that the menu is consistant so they don't have to relearn anything. It keeps them happy.

From a business...

I think the UI makes sense for verizon, it just sucks that they didn't really give many options to the power user.
