Buying Unlocked Phones

Hey I'm a Verizon customer whose contract ends in 2 weeks and I WANT THIS PHONE! Should I just buy it online, take it to a Cingular store and get a SIM card? And what about insurance? If I lost this thing I'd really go ape sh!te.

And another thing, are there any retail stores that display phones such as the K790a that are not available through the regular carriers? Like the Sony store in downtown San Francisco or whatever. Just want to test it out before I buy.

good luck getting it from a sony style store. they are not selling it in the stores. i have checked. but then again they may offer it.
i think you should get it, if it offers everything that you need.

Here's what you should do:
Buy the phone unlocked from a reputable store. Try not to use ebay because if you need to return the phone for a defect it will be a long process since you will have to go through SE.
Next, figure out the highest value "free" phone that Cingular offers.
Sell the free phone on Craigslist.com

Sonystyle stores will be the last to get the newest mobile phones. It's not too high on their priority list, from what I've heard. If you want to see it in a store, look for an import mobile phone store (usually asian stores). If you sign up your contract through them, they usually discount the phone for you.
Oh, and on the insurance... talk to Cingular about that one 😉
