This phone is absolutly sick. I'm super geeked about getting in the Sony W810i, however, this phone is just a wee bit nicer. But I don't think we'll be seing this one in the states for quite some time. Any idea of when we can expect a release date Rich?

Keep in mind that this is larger than the W810.

I'm not sure about a US release with a major carrier. It was always assumed it would come to Cingular, but it may be too high-end for them... especially with the W810 already coming and being relatively close in terms of placement.

I don't see why Cingular would acquire this handset since it's not 3G capable. Any other ideas? Possibly T-Mobile? I know it's been awhile since they carried a Sony Ericsson phone.

Not every handset they carry is going to be 3G capable, the 3G networks here in the US are still tiny. EDGE is gsm's only widespread higher speed data. I doubt either will brand and carry this though. Just buy it unbranded without buggy software 🙂 I use a w810i on T-mobile and it's just lovely.

I'm guessing this phone is only going to be availible unlocked for a long while. However, since it isn't part of Sony's "walkman" line mabye it will come to Cingular eventually. But it does seem a little high end and would probably be around $499.99 no commitment range if it would become availible through Cingular. But I say give it 8 months, it'll be on our (Cingular's roadmap).

The K800i is already available almost everywhere for a price of $429 and less in some places, so if Cingular where to pick up the K790, you would probably see a price of about $249 with a contract an no rebates.

I have an unlocked K800i and it is very nice. I wish sony had not switched to the m2 card as it is only available up to 1gb right now. Also the lens cover slides open too easily. Other than that it is a great phone.

i have to agree with jwdd this phone is amazing. i love everything but the 1gb memory card. but that is still alot of memory for a good hour of music time. the lens cover is fine with me. i have it on a pouch anyways not in my poket. the phone is way to nice to just carry it in your pocket with your keys. i really dont think cingular or tmobile will carry this phone. not for a wile...... just buy it unlock and use it with tmobile.
