Greetings -

just found this site and you guys are the best at answering everyone else's questions.

Just got a 3125 and it's my first experience with Windows Mobile. It's been a hard transition for me, coming from simple Moto GUIs.

Is there a way to get the 3125 to play imported mp3s as ringtones? No success so far. I just installed a Micro SD, and will try moving them there to see if it makes any difference.

Is there a way to change the font COLOUR in the home screen? The white is getting easily washed out.

Any links, resources, or help is greatly appreciated.

I'll reserve future questions to this thread. Thanks for your help!

This is how I got an MP3 for a ringtone:
- I copied the MP3 file into \Application Data\Sounds\ folder
- Start -> Settings -> Sounds -> Ring tone:
and selected it 🙂

Customizing the font color on the home screen may require that you edit the XML file, unless you find a pre-made one you like. These files are located at \Application Data\Home\ and my phone came with 6 choices.

To select one of these: Start -> Settings -> Home Screen -> Home screen layout: and select one. Each of these choices is one of the ?name?.home.xml files located in \Application Data\Home\ folder.

I made a copy of the one I liked most, renamed it to MyName.home.xml and then modified it with a text editor.

Wow, I just typed up a really nice message, but it literally contained exactly the same information as DaDuck (right down to linking to MoDaCo). Just as well, it timed out and lost the post, so yeah, follow DaDuck's advice. 🙂

Good luck!

Awesome. Do the files in the Appdata\sounds folder get stored on the memory expansion card? Do I need to create shortcuts or something from the storage card to this folder to prevent running out of memory, or is this (hopefully) managed by the OS?

Thanks so much! I've never editted XML before, but this is good incentive to try...

I doubt you can use shorcuts for this purpose, but you could always experiment ...

By default the "\Application Data\Sounds\" folder resides on your Device's built in flash memory, not on your MicroSD expansion card. I have no idea how to change that but you should easily have enough free space on the Device memory for a few ringtone MP3's.

To check on your memory status:
Start -> Task Manager -> Menu -> System Info

newbie to this thread and also to doing any modifications to a phone, so how do I go about copying an MP3 file to the \Application Data\Sounds\ folder. I was able to sync songs into the SD card already so how do I copy it, into such a folder. How do I get around in the cell phone to put it in there....barely getting used to switching to a smartphone. As much help would be very appreciated.

Two methods:

1) On the phone: Start -> File Explorer -> then navigate around and use its Copy & Paste features

2) On your PC with phone hooked up and ActiveSync Running:
ActiveSync -> Tools -> Explore -> navigate to \Application Data\Sounds\ folder -> now you can Drag & Drop (or Copy & Paste) files from your computer onto your phone

Or, door number 3. 🙂

Use Windows Media Player, switch it to your storage card (I can't sync right now, so I don't remember quite where it is, but it is in a drop-down menu I believe), and then drag the songs into Windows Media Player.

Greetings and thanks again for all the help!

My new questions, as I become more and more familiar with the phone are:

Is there a way to enable hearing yourself in the earpiece? Apparantly I breathe into the mouthpiece a lot, but can't hear myself "windtunnelling" my girlfriend.

Also, can you enable a "reminder" when you have a missed call or text message you haven't read? Seems I can only get it to notify on initial receipt, but if I don't continually look, I may miss it by hours.

Still looking for a way to keep the external display lit (no time out), if you hear of one...

Hope your day is going great! Thanks again!

Sounds like you need to get "DontForget".
"DontForget is a Smartphone application which will repeatedly notify you anytime you have unread SMS, MMS, e-mail, missed incoming call or missed reminder."
Google it.

As for your other problem, I would recommend a sex therapist ... hahah
