Speaker Phone Question

I was wondering if you have to wait until a call is connected to activate the speaker phone or if you can turn on the speaker after dialing.

I had a V400 and you had to wait until you were connected for 10-15 seconds to switch to the speaker. A big pain in the ass.

You can set it to speakerphone as soon as you press "Call". It will start coming out of the speaker as soon as it begins ringing (I just tried it to make sure).

But unfortunately, you can't close the flip while the speakerphone is engaged - it will hang up the call. I know the microphone is near the bottom yet inset from the edge of the phone, so I would be partially blocked by closing the flip, but come on - how is someone supposed to use the speakerphone aspect while the flip is opened?

Are you sure? I was using speakerphone two days ago with the phone closed. I had the headphones plugged in, so I don't know if that made a difference, but...I don't think it needs to be open to use it.

I'm sure that having the headphones in changed the behavior of the phone. Try this- have nothing plugged in, open the phone, initiate a call, switch to speakerphone, then close the phone - it'll probably disconnect the call. If not, perhaps I have a setting on my phone twiddled the wrong way.

Nope, you're right. That's stupid. Hopefully there's a setting somewhere in there.

sorry- was hoping I got it wrong and that you could do the speakerphone function with the flip closed. 😕

Yeah, I'm going to look into it and see if I can find an option somewhere. That should be enabled right off the bat though, if there is one.

If there is not one....wow, huge oversight.

This might be a deal breaker. Damn. I really wanted this phone too.

I currently have a Motorola MPx220 and I'm considering updating to this phone.

One of the things I hate about the mpx220 is the speakerphone. The normal volume is very low so I usually like to turn on the speakerphone. But it takes two keystrokes to turn on the speakerphone, and you can only do that after you have initiated or received a call.

You can't program your profile to be on speakerphone by default - you have to manually turn it on for every call.

Does this new phone work the same way or did they fix this?

I don't know of a way to default to speakerphone mode, but to be quite honest, I have never looked/tried, so that does not mean that it is not possible.

As hexydes mentioned, there is no obvious way to force it to default to speakerphone, though that would be a great if someone found a way.

But I am replying to mention a well hidden feature: On both my SMT 5600 and my 3125, holding down the green call button while I am on a phone call switches to speakerphone mode after a second or two. I assume all WM phones do this?

So you can do it with a single (long) keystroke instead of two, at least. Still not ideal though of course, but handy.
