This phone has been officially terminated for launch on Cingular. Apparently there were software issues that Nokia couldn't work out. But I have heard a rumor that Nokia is pitching a black version of the 8801 to Cingular.... stay tuned...

Djanifer9512, You seem to know a lot about the subject (at least a heck of a lot more than me). Do you think that an unlocked 6131 would make a decent phone if I'm currently on Cingular? I'm looking into getting one on eBay. All I'd do is the usual calling, the ocassional text message and maybe downloading a couple of ringtones. Also, do you know if the battery life is really "that" bad, or just "bad for a Nokia"?

Thanks!

One of those issues wouldn't happen to be the missing voice mail icon, I have heard its missing on the 6131. Im thinking about getting the 6131 but I'm wondering if that can be fixed.

A fellow Cingular manager has had a 6131 for about a month now that he ordered from Ebay. From what I understood from him, he hasn't had a whole lot of issues with his unlocked 6131. But for any unlocked phone to work properly, you have to change your GPRS settings to make sure that alot of your phones most basic functions work properly (voice mail indicator, sms, mms, MEdia Net ect). But according to my Nokia rep, the phone has 16 million colors in the screen and it looks phonominal. However the brilliance of the screen does significantly effect the life of the battery.

Thanks!

I guess as long as I fix the necessary settings and go into it aware of the battery issue, I should be ok. 🙂

I've had the 6131 for 3 months on Tmobile. This is the best phone I've ever had, I have ZERO complaints. The phone needs to be charged every night with moderate useage, however if you use the phone while it's plugged in it still charges.

If you buy an unlocked one from Ebay get it from Saberpoint, they are the best.
