Hi All,

I'm just curious, it sounds as if a few people that frequent this forum have the Nokia 6131. For those that do, have you experienced any issues w/ the screen & scratching that seem to plague the 6126? i'm just currious, b/c from the online specs they are essentially identical, but maybe the build materials of the 6126 are less than that of the 6131?? hence the model # difference?

Just curious.

best regards,

Here's an online review of the 6131 where the guy is somewhat critical of the screen durability. Apparently there is no protective glass just bare TFT. He says this is the only Nokia phone with this construction.

Here's Nokia's recommendation for usage from an email he sent them:

"As for overall recommendation for this model we advice you to take sensitivity of internal display when compared to displays with protective glass into consideration. For maximally long high-quality work of bright Nokia 6131 display it is advisable to avoid touching display with fingers, avoid mechanic contact with any objects, bar from any contacts with water (for example: not to talk on the phone du...

Someone was saying on Howard's that the external display was getting scuffed and cracked, so they had to send it back to Nokia for a redesign. So maybe the inner display is not a problem, just something that requires a little more care in order to get the bright colors.

This will be a deal breaker for me. I do not want to have to take “special precautions” when using this phone. Does anyone know what to look for when this phone is releases to see if they have fixed the issue?

The only thing I can think of is a glass screen over the inner lcd.

From my understanding in all the stuff I have been reading the OUTER screens were cracking or scratching on the 6126. Most of Cingular's problems with the units, though, seem to be firmware related. Those of us with the 6131s have reported no outside screen problems, some casing paint peeling and VMI issues. I have had none of those, but others have.

Someone on HoFo reported that Nokia will have a new case coming out for the 6131 in September. Maybe it is what has stopped the 6126 from coming to Cingular.

The message posted above from Falou at 3:46 am has a review from a guy that says the inner LCD is difficult to clean and remove smudge marks due to the lack of a protective glass cover. Additionally, it is more subjective to scratches. My Moto V551 is a bear to keep clean even with a glass cover. How easy or hard do you find cleaning your inner LCD and do you treat you 6131 with more care due to this unique design?

I find it a little harder to clean, due to the screen being indented into the frame. As for taking more care of the inner screen, no I don't. 🙂
