Flashing your phone aka getting rid of Cingular limitations

I was upset with all the limitations Cingular placed on the phone so I took a chance and decided to flash it. Scary but well worth it.

First go to http://davinciteam.com and download client 16.9 and purchase one credit.
You may also need to download these files to make it connect properly:
http://www.hutmacher.com/se/DVTsettings.zip »
http://www.hutmacher.com/se/tacs.zip »

Start up the program. Log in and make sure it recognizes that you have a credit. Then find your phone in the drop down menu and select the firmware versions and save them.

Shut down your phone and remove the battery and the sim card. Click "Read CID". Replace the battery, connect the USB cable that came with your phone, hold down the C button on your phone and...

so if you flash your phone, will that void the warentee with cingular, if you need to have it serviced or replaced? what is the draw back to having the media net stuff? what are complete working themes? full mp3 ringtones, does that mean that the cell will ring and play the full length of the song when someone calls? it would be nice to be able to delete the junk pix and tones they put on it. thanks for any light you can shed on these questions.

warranty:
it probably will void the warranty but if it truly does break or die they probably won't even know. you are not making any physical changes to the phone (opening it up, etc.) just a software update.

media net:
the dedicated media net key is now a shortcut key. no more accidentally bumping the button and jumping on the web

themes:
orbit, equalizer, and others create different icons in the menus. very cool looking. way better than the standard ones cingular makes you use.
here's a video of the menu with the equalizer theme: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/image/son yeric/w810/video/se810-3.wmv
if you google orbit theme you should see some screenshots of the orbit menu.

mp3 ringtones:
yes, plays the full song (unti...

I paid for the credit and downloaded the program then I got STUCK!! How do you know which firmware to save? your directions say pick it from the box, but there are tons of firmware versions!! I am trying to flash my husbands Cingular branded 810. My w810i is unlocked and it has the version listed as R4CK003 (lol it also says CXC 1250317 which I did not recognize anywhere). The Davinci software has two of those America 1 and America 2. Also, I called Sony Ericsson and they said the firmware version is R4CE012. That's on the Davinci list too. Am I supposed to be flashing with my version, the SE version or Cingular or what?? I am just a little confused and I am hoping you can help me because I already spent the $13!! 🤭

Thank yo...

You want America 1. After you flash to America 1, you can download updates from SE if you want.

I think I am just too stupid to do this....it isn't doing anything...I spent two hours trying to get the "test" to work and it's like it doesn't even know that the phone is there. I hold in the C button and then after about a minute or so of holding it in it just loads up the orange file transfer screen. Do you have to be on the Internet while you are running this program? I have not been and it just doesn't seem to be working..

I'm so frustrated!! 🙄

I'm not sure. I would visit the forums on their website and ask one of their support.

I've read many complaints on various cellphone forums that the Cingular branded W810 has a low earpiece volume. I have the Cingy W810 and sometimes calls sound loud and sometimes they sound very low. Can anyone verify if flashing/debranding the phone has improved the earpiece volume at all?

i only had the phone for a few days before flashing so i cannot really say.

i can tell you right now i have no problem with volume during calls

as for mp3 volume in the earphones, it seems to depend on what bitrate i have the music at.

I started with an unbranded version and the ear piece level is not adequate for calls in less than quiet environments. 😢

This is not for unlocking your phone, this is just to flash the firmware on it.

They may have an option to unlock it. I'm not sure. Go to their website.

nevermind that last message, i downloaded the client, im silly

anyway...is there any risk in flashing the phone? will it turn up dead and useless if i screw something up? it looks pretty easy from all the steps i can see. If it does get messed up, is there anyway to fix it?

Why would anybody want to flash their phone if you can buy it unbranded in addition to unlocked at a variety of online sellers? It's hardly more expensive than buying it under contract with Cingular.

i got my cingular branded phone for free through amazon. $12 to flash it. i think that's better than any deal online sellers will give you.

You beat me. After rebates at the Cingular store, my final cost was $18.60. Congrats. Now,
did you go through Amazon to flash your phone? If not, then who?
