I'm curious since I'm a perspective SE W810 buyer. What would be the purpose of performing these various tests? Would you be able to effect changes for repair and/or performance of the phone? If so, what things could you effect?

Honestly I have no clue, all service tests are to check the corresponding item is functioning, Rarely does SE mislabels the boxes IMEI but his is a alternate way to obtain the IMEI, good when traveling abroad in GSM countries. Customizing the labels is also an option. So you can have the phone display Dude phone!! instead of Answer call. To optimize the phone its better to unbrand a Cingular phone then reset the settings to work with the Service provider, as it unlocks some features blocked by the carrier, this in turn does not mean your phone is UNLOCKED. Its unbranded but synced back to the respectful carrier.
