Low Earpiece?

Anxiovert

Guys, I am waiting for this phone to come out so I can get rid of my SLVR. (too old for me now) But I keep hearing that this phone has a low earpiece! This is one of the main things I didn't like about the SLVR.
Can someone please tell me if this phone is any louder than the SLVR? Same? 😳 Lower??? 😲 I would really appreciate it.

Never had a SLVR but I just called 611 and it sounded fine to me. I use my BT headset 99.9% of the time though, so I really cant say if its low or not.

If I call 611, the automated system is LOUD.. but when I get on the phone with someone.. it's NOT so loud.. Really it's all over the place. For the most part, it's low.. I'm quite disappointed in the ear piece, but the rest of the phone freakin rawks... so I dunno.. weigh out the bad for the good? I took it apart in hopes it could be made louder kinda like what you can do with the Motorola v400/500 series, but after popping it open, nothing like that could be done. The only thing I did notice is that the speaker is cover 75% with a little hole at the top for the sound to escape... dunno if that's helping or hurting their design, but tempted to tear the hole open haha.. nah jk. I'd be mad if I made it worse 😛

Speaking of volume differences . . . has anyone else noticed that if you listen to the FM radio through the speakerphone, certain stations will sound REALLY LOUD, I mean like 30%-50% louder! If the normal ringtones & speaker were that loud I'd be thrilled!! I don't get why the phone can get that loud but won't normally? Anyone have an idea/guess why?

Why is it that cingular is releasing some many phones with low earpieces? Is this a new trend? RAZR (too low) SLVR (louder than RAZR but still too low) d807 (what? huh? say what? too low) now this one too???
I can't beleive this! 😡

I have noticed that the radio (with some stations) comes in pretty loud. I think overall the phone is fairly quiet and like the phonescoop review said you just have to krank the volume up on it... Honestly, this phone is so great that sound is the least of your worries. I sit outside on the balcony at work with construction all around and turn the walkman up to like 8 out of 10 and I can hear the music just fine. Don't let the sound be the reason that you don't get this phone. It's a lot of fun 😁

I hear ya Anxiovert, seems like I can't find a freakin phone out there with a decently loud earpiece. I think the only one I had somewhat luck on was the w600i. That's been the only one I think I could say I was pleased with the audio, that and the v551.

It sucks bad.. you think that would be a priority.

I know, this trend is starting to piss me off. It seems like the smaller and thinner the phones get; the lower the volume on the earpiece.....

Anxio-

I've never used a SLVR but I have had an unlocked w810i for a week now and have had no problems with the earpiece volume at all. Typically, I keep the volume on 5 or 6 out of 8, depending upon how low the person on the other end is speaking. I have found that as long as I don't try to shove the earpiece speaker down my ear canal I can hear much better. What I'm saying is to use the screen to seal the ear canal to block outside noise and it works perfect. This requires raising the speaker higher than normal but the difference in volume on my phone is incredible. If I turn the volume up to 8 while doing this it actually hurts. But, from what I've read on the other site (HF) it seems that the earpiece volume could be firmware dependen...

Thanks for the info. But I really think this phone is going to be low. I haven't been able to find a phone as loud as my old v551 was. I tried the RAZRs, the SLVR is a bit louder than the RAZR line up, but it's still low. I tried the D807 even lower than the SLVR!!! I tried the Nokia 6102i (loud but I don't like nokias) I hear the V3i is just as low as the V3 (WTF?) Also, I hear the Nokia 6126 is also low...
WHY?? why???? I just can't belive this! Is this like a conspiracy to make you buy bluetooth headsets???

Actually now that roadroach mentioned it.. that was the issue with my old mpx220, it has low audio but then they released a new firmware and bam, it was loud man. I bet that could be an issue now that I think about it. Roadroach, what version firmware do you have?

I have Generic R4DB005. When I first received it the older version was on it that was known to drop calls so I updated OTA.

I just got my W810 this week. I agree, the earpiece volume is not loud enough. I took the phone into a Cingular store and the guy dialed 611 to test it out. I was annoyed because I noticed 611 is typically loud whereas all other calls are low.

But it's not just the earpiece volume, its the ringer volume too. I have mine set to volume 8 and in a moderately noisy bar, I could not hear my ringer. I could clearly hear other people's phones ringing in the bar, but not mine.
