When will this unit be available to the public? Will Cingular offer it with special pricing? What will the pricing be with and without a contract?

we got this review unit from sony ericsson, so i cannot answer any cingular-specific questions. the model we got was not customized for cingular, so i cannot even guarantee they will launch it, tho it is heavily rumored that they will. sony ericsson will most likely sell an uncustomised version on their site very soon.

🤣 Summertime SE fans. Third quarter friends. Pricing hasn't been released, usually isn't till couple weeks before initally launched, sorry, I'm no help there, but I can positively say Cingular will be having it in the summer here. Take care, Seacrest, out 😈 Laugh.

Hurry up! Please. I've been getting ready to order this phone and would like to know you're impressions before I buy.

How does it work as a phone, in terms of being able to organize contacts? Would you consider it mostly a music player, mostly a camera, or mostly a phone? Since I'll be using it as a phone - for business and personal use - I'm curious if it will work well and organize my many contacts properly. Does the PC software come with a PIM?

Oh... so many questions. Looking forward to your review.

the w810 offers the *exact* same software as the w600, since your questions are software specific, our w600 review can be found here:

Does this phone definitely not support stereo bluetooth? Is there a sound when you take a picture? Are the menus laggy like the S700series? And last, does this phone do the new SE auto connect thing with the bluetooth?

the w810 does NOT support stereo bluetooth

there is a sound when you take a picture, except when the phone is in silent mode. (hooray!)

the menus are very very responsive. and applications launch quickly.

i do not have a new SE headset with autoconnect, so i haven't been able to verify whether this feature is present in the w810

Thanx for the answers. I was reading a magazine last night and it had the price for the phone set at $800 US. Is there a price on this yet? I am seeing sites that sell the phone for about $500, but SE told me that they are from over seas and therefore carry a limited warranty, and if anything were to happen I would need to ship it to the originating country. Do you know if that is at all true?

Can you speak to call quality/reception of the phone, particularly while moving? Some people on the 'Net, including myself, have been experiencing some issues (Cingular, T-mobile, etc.) with dropped calls while driving... almost as though tower handoffs aren't happening (but even this has not been confirmed.) Yet, others are not having any problems. I am on Cingular service in the Chicago area.

I'm very interested to understand how the reception compares to the 610i on Cingular's network. Specifically, the 610i has the special antenna design and apparently has very good reception, while this has internal antenna.

Does the 810i have the same antenna design, but just enclosed?

Any real world comparison on 850 band?

i'm confused by your question. the k610i is not out yet. is that the model you're asking us to compare it to? i'm sorry, that would be impossible. the only time we have had a chance to use the k610 was at 3GSM, where i had nothing to make a useful comparison.

I'm sorry for the error Eric.

I am trying to understand how the W810 850MHz band reception compares to the W600i (not the 610i).

even new, the w800 was $600. i find it darn near impossible that the w810 will sell for more than that. when it will go on and sale and for how much, i don't know.

Eric,
I was really surprised how loud the w600 speakerphone was when playing mp3s. Is the w810 just as loud?

the speakerphone on the w810 is about mmmm 2/3 to 3/4 the volume of the W600 (or S710). the candybars just simply are not as loud as the spinners. which is a shame.

So this will not be a 3G phone? Just a quad band? Also if this is for Cingular will it support the PTT feature??

Also I would love to see some pics of how it looks with the backlight on, and keys lit up.

The apple site lists that this phone can sync with the mac via iSync. Contacts, calendar, contact pics and to-do's. That's better support than Motorola's.

So what about the music player? If mp3's are dragged and dropped onto the card are they recognized by the music player? How about playlists? Does the phone have a decent interface to configure playlists? Is there a way to manage playlists with a Macintosh?

When I plug this phone into my mac, iPhoto automatically opens to import photos. Also, the phone's memory as well as the memory sticks memory mount as seperate drives.

I have not used iSync yet with this phone, but definitely want to try now when I get home.

I have dragged and dropped files from iTunes directly into the mp3 folder on the Memory Stick drive. Files show up in the Walkman with the correct artist information and everything.

For Ringtones - I used the below steps in iTunes, and then import the ringtone to the phone as described above:

1) Set preferences to import as MP3 128 KB
Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Import Using [ MP3 Encoder] [Good Quality]
2) Pick the 30 seconds of the song that you want to use
