Yes, I know I sound like a n00b but UMA just sounds like it pwns. Also, am I the only person stunned by the domestic dual bands on this phone? For such a cool sounding phone--midrange in Europe, well okay, akin to the firefly--I would've expected it to be quadband.

For the people that were not paying attention, this phone is in select markets for testing and is not nation wide YET. for more info check it out.

and the UMA aspect is why it isn't Quad, there is only one frequency UMA runs off as far as what I've heard.

I think that saying that UMA runs on a frequency might be a little misleading. From what I understand about the technology, it could used by plugging an ethernet cable into the phone (if it had that port). At this time, the only UMA compatible phones available run on 2.4 GHz because that is what 802.11b/g runs on.

Plugging it in via cable might not be a bad plan either, since I have heard that running Wifi on this phone drains the battery very quickly.
