Hello everyone,

i'm new this forum and enjoy the great ideas and insights...

i apologize for my question being pretty basic, but i never understood how the SIM card works... especially when using it to save contact info... also am confused about the "location 1, 2, 3 etc" in the contacts section...

any ideas?

thanks!

Fred

You're not alone. When I sit down to key dozens of names and phone numbers into my phonebook, I don't know if I should choose to save them to the phone or to the sim card. What's the difference? Is there an advantage or disadvantage to one or the other? Someone PLEASE answer this! 😕

Saving it to the SIM allows you to take your phonebook from one GSM phone to another by taking the SIM out of your phone and inserting it into another. It's nice if you are replacing or upgrading the phone.

That makes sense. Let me ask you this...if I've already saved a bunch of numbers to the phone, is there any way to copy them to the sim card later on?

Yep, but unfortunately you have to do it one contact at a time.

Interesting, far as I knew you could not copy entries to the SIM on the 807

You can create new entries and have the option to save to the phone or SIM, but you can't copy exsisting contacts already saved to the phone to SIM

or at least the last time I checked

I believe the 'Location' numbers are just the order in which you entered the contacts into the phone. I'm not 100% positive though. I do know that it is NOT the speed dials.

As far as sim cards... They are awesome. The mobile carriers that use them actually active the sim card instead of the phone and that is what gives you service. It makes it so much easier when upgrading or just changing phones. All you have to do is take the sim out and pop it into the next phone, and if you have your contacts saved to the sim, they transfer also. You can only save contacts to the sim though, you cannot save ringtones, games or anything like that. The only downside to the sims is that sometimes they go bad, or if you lock your phone or go into it so...
