Yeah, but it's $2 a month, which makes is worthless to many.

Its only worthless if you've never lost your phone. As is, most carriers will charge you to copy over contact lists from one CDMA based phone to the next, so $2 for insurance on the list isn't that bad a price.

I know I LOVE charging customers to do phonebook transfers. Get out the Cellbrite machine and you make a quick $10 for 2 minutes of work.

Bleh, whatever verizon-person. At sprint, phonebooks are free on any new phone (act or upgrade) and if you are smart enough to pay $3/mo for no-charge, in-store service, they can back-up, print or e-mail your phone book free anytime...

so is it gonna be a feature exclusive to this phone and all sprint phones that follow? or will it be a downloadable application like verizons backup assistant available via Get It Now???

and it is anything but worthless. if its anything like backup assistant, having the ability to just create a phonebook online and send it back to the phone will save so much time..and the ability to finally have these numbers stored safely and not having to worry about phonebook transfers in the event of a lost phone...totally awesome

anyone who cant spare 2 extra dollars a month for such an asset i dont know what to say to you

Not sure about creating online, but the Sammy 840 (with it's latest software update) is the first phone.I beleive all of the new Sprint phones have it now (3100, 350, etc).

This may be a stupid question but couldn't you just save your phonebook to you sim? Or do these phones not have them?

Yep, CDMA phones (Sprint and Verizon)don't have them... It is part of the technical specs of CDMA for a "data card" similar to a SIM but neither company chose to implement it. I actually make a living doing phonebook swaps on CDMA phones!

Anyway at 2 dollars a month this service would be rather nice to have.....i mean there have been alot of times that I have hooked a phone up to cellbrite and it cannot read the phone at all...or maybe the customer has lost or destroyed the phone completely.

In most cases customers (and myself) dont really remeber anyones phone number in there phone anymore. They just pull up there friends and families numbers by name.
