can i only get the tools to download music onto my phone at verizon stores? do they sell it somewhere cheaper? thanks.

I don't think you need them. I was able to get it all working by downloading software from samsung here:

Other than that, all I needed was windows media player and my micro SD card.

On second thought, I am using the USB cable that came with the Music Essentials kit, just not the software. But maybe you can get a compatible cable another way?
