So we (friend and I) got into this internal menu on this phone and there is an option for mp3... When you select it, it says: "No mp3 directory found on memory card"...Will this be resolved by re-formatting and creating a folder????
I will be testing to see if this will enable mp3's on this phone when I get home...
...
Can you please provide to us neophites some directions for getting the MP3s to work on our a930s? thnx
...
Ok
-Go to the MENU
-Go to Settings and tools
-Press #
-Enter all 0's
-at this menu, press 0 again
-enter the following passcode 8886573982
-scroll down and select MP3
it will now look for mp3 files on your card... you need to reformat your card if you've already used it and make sure you put your music in "my mp3" folder...
Try it out!

Thnx much protege for the reply. Sorry, but another question. Can I use both formats (mp3,wma) when I do this, and can I go back to the old way if necessary?
...
You can still play WMA by going to MY MUSIC when you go to GET IT NOW/GET TUNES and TONES menu...NOTHING CHANGES
the only way to play your mp3's is by following the steps listed each time otherwise if you go to MY MUSIC, the phone wont detect mp3 files...
so yes you can play both... just different methods
...
great find protege... sorry but just one more question
how did you re-format your card.. and once done, how do you add the mp3 files to your card.. i assume it cant be through the verizon music package software since that only does wma's right?
...
you reformat the card through the phone itself... you need the cable to connect your phone to your pc... just move mp3's into MY MP3 folder...
...
When I exit out of the mp3 menu I get a message that says SATS mode, yes? no? What is that mode? Its default setting is no, when i say yes i can't find a difference. Any input?
...
hmmm.... I will look for that tomorrow and let u know... dont have a930 on me....
...
I got the same thing. Any idea what I should choose? Yes/No?
...
Sorry buddy but I didnt see this on mine... I would just leave it on the default setting...I recommend you reformat your card and a folder should automatically be created for mp3s...make sure you put files in there...
...
Yeah that part worked out alright. So there is no other way to listen to mp3s accept to enter in all those codes every time you want to play mp3s right? I believe you said that but im hoping i mis-read it. Its just a pain even though i have already memorized the 8886573982 :-D
...
Yea its pretty sad I memorized it too... lol... oh well its better than nothing... Thats why I changed my Samsung a930 for an LG8300 which supports mp3 w/out the need for all this "hacking" lol... both nice phones though...
...
I did not have to hack anything, you should have a memory card though. With phone connected and proper drivers...which were tough to find, open WMP10 (installed version through verizon vcast site). In WMP, with the VCast crap installed, you can sync from pc files/playlists to the card In the phone, Menue, GIN, Get Tunes and Tones, select my music...or manage music. Now what I am not certain is that if you do not have VCast installed on phone, would all this work (like the older days in which you needed a ringtone prog on GIN so a dir was created to put your own tones in) In my case, I took the free month of VCast. Regardless, the MP3s have nothing to do w/ VCast and in my opinion, VCast is a waste...after 25 min of searching it, the only ...

I noticed that the volume was significantly louder for the MP3 player when enabled. However, I can't close the phone and I have to go though that entire menu to get it to work. I tried the sync method using WMP10 and that was nice because you don't need to purchace a converter. It takes mp3s and converts them right on to your phone... neat. Is there a way to hack the volume control? I actually would like to hack everything that I can on this phone. I want to add to the dictionary and maybe change the menus if possible. Thanks for any ideas or input

Has anyone found a way to make it an easy menu option without any codes? I tried using old 950 software but it didn't have the same menu option in the hidden menu.
...
A couple things:
So pretty much the only way to get the the MP3 player is using the codes Protege provided us?
Is there any way to play MP3s with the phone closed? I can play them via Protege's code w/ the phone open but when i shut the phone the Mp3s stop.
Thx!
...
Sorry I think you're out of luck there!

Thank verizon (must be some deal with Micro$oft to push the Media Player and wma format). The phone has the capability to play mp3 out of the box, and even with Verizon's flash software, but Verizon does not want users to play MP3s direct from the phone (hence only as a test in the secret menu).
Looks like I need to set up a seperate directory called 'music for verizon phone' which will have a set of wma converted stuff.
...
If you hold down the play button for a second or two, it will ask play music? Just click play again to start playing. Hold play again to stop music player

...
when i put music on my samsung with a midi convertor i here the instument junk and i dont want that i want the song as my ringtone the only way for it to work is i got to buy ringtones from vcast is ther anyway i could bypass that thanks pleas reply
...
how do you access the other functions in that menu
where mp3 is located?
...
alright, so mp3 in enabled, but the problem with it (obviously) is that the phone has to be open to play them. When an mp3 is playing, the music is SO much louder, so the phone can reach high volumes on headphones. If anybody has a volume hack, holy crap that would be amazing. It owuld be nice to be able to use the manage music function with the same volume as the mp3 player has. 😁
...
Okay so i'm new at this, and i just tried to get to the menu for the MP3 function, i went to settings - tools and pressed the # and then 0 until my finger hurt, how many 0's are supposed to be pushed? Or am i doing something horribly wrong, because no menu popped up for mp3's or anything...
