Transferring Music

Do you have to have Verizon's Music Package to transfer music to your phone or are you able to do it just using the SD card?

I have a Windows 2000 computer and Windows Media player 10 only works on XP. Any other suggestions for moving music?

Just got the phone yesterday and have not bought the sd card or Music Package as of yet.

I have a Micro SD card, and I tried to move some wallpaper over into the MY PIX folder on my the properly formated card.. and it said "Could not be modified."

I'm on Mac OSX.. anyone know what's up?
