date in external display

the day/date will only appear in the external display when I hold down the volume control button. it will not remain in the display if I just leave me phone alone. how can I get the date to stay in the external display?

I was wondering the same thing. I don't know if they programmed it that was to save on the battery, but you'd think that having the date along with the time wouldn't take that much battery.
