Ok, this is my first knock on this phone, wont make me trade it in because everything else is so great, but this is a little stupid.

So I had not used the mp3 player yet (which is a wrong name for it) and accidently ran across an article stating that Microsoft and Verizon were going to be blocking MP3 playblack in Verizons new phone and that WMA would be the only supported format.

I decided to test thit out right away. Come to find out when you put a MP3 file on the phone or on the memory card, it wont show up or play in it. However, when you convert them to WMA it plays flawlessly.

This is going to piss off a lot of people that really like using their phones with mp3s. Now its going to take them one more step; converting to wma, ...

They will NOT release an update to get around this. The new VCAST MUSIC service only accepts WMA's. They actually released a software update to make the 950's and the LG VX8100 do this, so don't look for that to happen.

Well i currently have the 8100 and got the new v cast music software which only takes wma files, but you can alos turn thr mp3 on, so there are two folders, one folder plays only mp3's and one folder plays the wma music files. to enable the mp3 player on the new software, press menu 0 then 000000 then scroll all the way to the bottom to themusic player and then enable the mp3 player, i havent tested this on the samsung 950 but my guess is that the lg 8300 would have an mp3 player enable option also like the 8100. so nhow im waiting for both phone2 to be released to make my decision whether to get the 8300 or 930 but im leading more towards the 8300

keep in mind the 8100 originally had no music playback(mp3's or wma) had a software upgrade to add mp3, then had another to add wma and hide mp3. the only reason the 8100 still has mp3 playback is because they had it before wma. i'm not so sure the 8300 will have the mp3 access, we'll know in a few weeks i guess. got the dummy 930s in our store today. size feels really nice but the display looks tiny! i'll have to wait for the live ones.
